I heard that if a person gets nervous around you for no apparent reason and/or when a person looks at you in a certain way, you can tell that s/he is interested in you. Is this true?

This is an immortal question with a very simple answer. The way to tell if the person you're with is interested in you is this...
(drum roll...)
You say something,
and they respond,
and you respond,
they respond,
etc.
If you have any emotion at all from the person during the interaction, it is safe to assume that they like you.

It may definitely be true. That is definitely a sign. However, talking with that person and seeing how interested in they are in what you have to say, how they close they get etc are also good indicators.

Those are two very good ways to tell.
A lot of other 'signs' are not so obvious. Some people avoid people that they are interested in, or make fun of you.

if someone likes you they usually:
avoid eye contact, yet look at you often
constantly tease you, mostly playfully
sighed when they see you
