I had a friend of mine who had the bad luck to be in the army in Vietnam. He would talk about coming out of the jungle after 30 days of no shower stinking like mad, and see some nice clean air force guy in clean shorts and shirt barbecuing a steak. A retired Navy Chief used to say, If you want to learn something, join the air force, if you want to have fun, join the navy. The Air Force is highly trained and has a better way of life. No getting around those two facts.

The other branches are not jealous of the Air Force, they just have their pride. Every branch of the military will trash talk the other, that's just the way of life. When it comes down to it though, all the branches will help each other regardless of who is with what branch. The Air Force will get down and dirty with the Marines and Army, and they will work with the Navy from a carrier or med evac ship out at sea. I am in the Air Force, and in the time that I have been in, I have worked with Army and Marines, and they were happy to have the help and overall great guys to work with. I hope this helps answer your question.
And yes the Air Force basic training does involve live fire training on the M-16/M-4 combat assault rifles. Also the Air Force Security Forces and Special Operations teams train on all the same weapons that the Marines, Army, and Navy use.

Some other service members are jealous because the Air Force is more like a business than a branch of service.

I've never heard of anyone being jealous of the AF. I've only heard jokes at fly boy's expense. All branches of the military serve their purpose. Marines are first in, last out. Army provides supplies and support, Navy gives the Marines a ride to fight and the Air Force does a good job of air traffic control. But seriously, do you even have to qualify with a weapon in the Air Force? Don't you guys call it Basic Training, or something like that. I mean is that really a military branch or more of a country club?
BTW to Glock059...two answers below this one...Ranger's don't jump out of AF planes...I'm a 2nd Force Recon Marine...Jumped outta plenty of planes in my life...

Hmm...Funny question! However, I was involved in another branch, but I was not jealous. I have met many very nice AF people, and I have admiration for their exceptionally clean housing for Enlisted and their nice facilities for dining and all of that stuff. However, I was a bit sad to hear that many Enlisted in the AF seem to stall out at E-5 paygrade despite being good at what they do. That stinks, but the AF is a nice branch of the Military.

hmm, well, i was in the military and i wasn't jealous of the Air Force; i always thought they had some things better than us and some things worse. if i had to do it over again, i wouldn't necessarily choose the air force any more than the branch i was in; i'd probably just choose a better specialty.

People make fun of the air force because you can't be an idiot and get in. Yea, that makes sense.
And go call an off duty Air Force MP a bytch. Good luck with that.

I think that every branch of the military serves the same purpose and that is to serve their country.
Why Would "teampunishment" knock any soldier? It's hard to believe there are such ignorant people, that would put down someone that fights for your FREEDOM.

I don't think they are jealous because you know all brances of the military have their pride. I think they just wish they had some of the nicer commodities we had such as running water in the field, AC, good food...oh, and regardless of what branch our troops are in maybe rather than bash them we should be praising them. To say anyone in the ARMY is nothing but a bullet catcher is disgraceful, especially said during a time of war when so many military members are being injured. My sister just left for Iraq again and i really didn't appreciate that comment. Remember it is for people with that type of bravery who died for your right to make such stupid comments (intended for that person who answered just before I did)
