Germany declared war on the US because it had a treaty with Japan, that's why the US went to war against Germany.

After the attack on pearl harbor by the Japanese forces president Roosevelt declared war on Japan. While still in a neutral status president Roosevelt had an naval war going with Germany allowing US naval ships to open fire on German submarines they met at sea (this has been going on since September of 1941). After the attack by japan, Germany being in a treaty with japan saw a opportunity to attack the United States. If Germany hadn't declared war on the United States chances are that the united States would never fully get involved with the War in Europe because public support currently was against interfering in the European conflict.

The AXIS (the enemy) was made up of Japan, Germany and Italy Foreign Legions from two dozen or more countries had signed the Tripartite Treaty on September 27, 1940. So if you attacked one the others came to its defense.

Note: I understand they are actually close to proving FDR had prior knowledge of the Japanese attack. Austrian papers had reported on it weeks before December 1941 and US Navy Intelligence seized the papers. This is not one of these crazy conspiracy theories but actual serious reporting.

It has also just been learned that the Japanese message they had sent to their Ambassador to be presented to our Government at a specific time was to have alerted the Americans so they would be ready. Their Bushido warrior code considered it a disgrace to strike a foe that was not ready!

By the way the Lusitania was sunk in in the First World War. The Germans had not wanted to go war with us at that time. They wanted to finish off England and Russia first, plus look at the Nazis movement in the 1930"s here in the US. It was a MAJOR political movement!

Germany was the one that started WWII. They were concurring every thing in the area and sinking any ships that tried to bring food and supplies over there. Japan was Germany's Alli in the war and the country that struck the US first. By the time the US got into the war Russia and the US were the only two countries left that had a chance to stop the Germans.

Germany figured that since we were already fighting a war against Japan it would be a perfect time to declare on us.

Did you not learn about WW2 in school? I can not believe what you guys are not being taught.

We were attacked on 12/07/1941-so we declared war on Japan... well a few days later Germany declared war on us, hoping that Japan would help them... so after thinking about it we decided to go after Germany and free millions of people and then when everything was all said and done, we weren't quite done yet.. we dropped a nice little nuclear bomb right in the heart of Japan for the little stunt they pulled on us

The two are hardly unrelated.. I can't believe you weren't taught that in school.... unrelated is Bin Laden's attacks on the US and we start a war with Iraq... that's unrelated.

Hitler felt the Axis agreement obligated him to declare war on the US after Japan did. What Hitler wanted was for Japan to declare war on Russia in return. However, fortunately enough for the Allies, Japan didn't invade Siberia. I guess it comes down to Hitler being stupid?
