I just found out i can't join the army because i am taking stratera for ADD. I can function perfectly fine without it I'm not sure that I even have ADD. Just because I followed a counselors stupid advice to start taking ADD medicine a month ago i can't join the army.

It's not like i'll be twiddling my thumbs while i'm getting shot at by some crazy *** jihadist with an AK47.

So let me get this straight. Someone with a learning disability or depression can join the army but i can't now because less than a month ago i had my doctor write me a prescription for stratera??

Everybody has ADD to some degree. You treat us(ADD people) like we have the worst "mental disorder" ever.

I was in the military for about 6 years. If I had been completely honest when I went in, I wouldn't have been allowed to.
The U.S. military is probably the most strict regarding enlistment qualifications. That doesn't mean it's impossible to get in. Some problems can be waived, and some can be contested. You might be able to be tested and have your diagnosis reversed. This might enable you to join.
The biggest problem with ADD is that they feel you might not be able to focus your attention on a specific and necessary task. What they fail to realize is that ADD people don't have a deficit in attention, but that their attention can focus on everything at the same time. This is actually beneficial when you're on guard duty or such because if anything happens around you, you're more likely to notice it.
Anyway, I would talk to your recruiter, ask if the diagnosis was reversed, if you might be able to join then. They may have you do a check up with their own psychiatrist, but you still might be able to join.

Well...that's why it's always a good idea to get a second opinion. Plus, typically is takes longer than one month for a good physician to determine if you really have ADD/ADHD. As you indicated, you're not even sure if you have that condition.

Also, where did you earn your medical degree or Ph.D in neurophysiology? I have never heard or read anywhere that EVERYBODY has ADD to some degree. If that were true everyone would be on Ritalin, Concerta, Adderall, Desoxyn or Stattera (the correct spelling). You might try waiting 30 days for the drug to clear from your system and then try again. Stattera is the only non controlled medication used to treat ADD/ADHD and will not show up on a drug screen test for controlled drugs.

But it all depends on if you gave them your medical records, etc.

First of all, ADD IS more than just being distracted or impatient. It can also be accompanied by other things. And if you join the military, you will never get help for anything because they don't like to address anything that pertains to the service members. Second, they will not let you in if you can't serve in a war. If you are on meds like Stratera, they need to be monitored. There aren't psych docs in Iraq that will have the time to monitor your ADD. I don't even know if you can get it refilled over there. Besides, there are side affects to ALL of those drugs. Count your blessings that you aren't going in.

While you think your disorder is being singled out, even depression is disqualifying. The military will not admit someone with severe depression requiring medication. Yes, it may treat members that develop it after joining, but typically they will not accept the liability of someone with a pre-existing disorder that requires medication and is non-deployable.

I hate to burst your bubble but the teachers are hoping to keep you all drugged to get your through the day. When I went to school it was totally unheard of to be on medicines except for Clearasil or something. Get off the drugs, you've been duped. If they went back to physical education classes where kids could use their energy you wouldn't need drugs. I think this has been the biggest scam of teachers and the drug companies.
