relax...she's only 3...
tell her that if she doesn't put her toys back where she found them then you will take them away from her and she wont be able to play with them for a while.
but im no child expert.

SHE'S 3!
There is no way that you can reasonably expect a 3 year old to behave like an adult... which is what it sounds like you are wanting.
Try to get onto her level... make clean-up time a game. "Let's race to see who can put more toys away first!" Maybe color-coded bins for the toys... "Let's put the Yellow Bin toys away first so they don't get mixed up with the Red Bin toys!"
But face it... two small children... there's not going to be any such thing as "organized" for at least a decade.

Well, I would say she is too young to know how to clean anything. However if you do your work around the house with her and show her how to do things, she will be a future cleaner. Make sure that you don't go too harsh about her making a mess, but remember that learning is the key at this age and if you set an example to her at an early age of 3, by the time she is 5, she will be helping you around the house. Good luck...

She may be only 3 but bad habits develop fast from an early age so she should start developing good habits and routines when young. I have a few suggestions and I hope they work for you!
Firstly. when she does tidy up her room, praise her. Show her affection so she knows she's done something good. Also you may wanna treat her. I am not saying bribe her, but treating her with something healthy, like frozen yoghurt or something after will reward her and again she will know she has done something good. Maybe you can get her to help you clean up and slowly you start to do less and less every time and let her do most in the end. Remember to praise her when she does something good!!

We have a clean up song. Here it is..lol. It's time to pick up and clean up and tidy the floor, come playtime tomorrow we'll be ready for more. They know that is pick up time, does it work? Sometimes! My two are 12 months apart, a girl 3 1/2 and a boy 2 1/2 and its messy all the time it seems.

Relax. Mine are 9 and 12 and they STILL don't always pick up after themselves!
Get a large plastic storage container and make a game of it- have a contest and see who can throw the toys in the bin the fastest.
Don't stress out picking up after them hour after hour. Instead, force yourself to wait until the end of the day and do it then- even so, remember that it will all start again the next day!

I think that 3 year olds can at least pick up their toys. My son tries to pick up! He's almost three! He loves helping do the dishes! It's hard to get them to do something that they don't want to do. Making it fun for her is my only suggestion. My son has a DVD where the cartoons make a game out of cleaning their rooms. I try to remind him of how much fun it is for them to clean their rooms. It sometimes work! Good Luck! And don't listen to that thing about her only being three. Even three year olds can pick up after themselves.

Unfortunately, I don't know how much you can really do at this point other than continuing to remind her to clean up after herself. Three years old is a little young, in my opinion, to expect her to remember to keep her stuff clean. good luck!

Trade ya' twin 11 year old boys and a 17 year old girl who are slobs...and my wife and I are extremely organized people...I think we have attributed to thier laziness by picking up after them and not making them do it themselves.....AHHH!!....self realization sucks!!!! training...training...and more training...of yourself!
The trade offer is still on the table though! LOL

My toddler loves to clean up once i start with one of his favorite songs..."clean up, clean up.." you know, make it fun!! =) i would have to say though, it's tough keeping the house clean with kids living with you. so relax....=) i think the key is "MAKING IT INTO A GAME. "have fun with them while they're still young because once they move out and go to college, you'll miss all the mess they make everyday, and thats probably one thing you'll cry over. funny isn't it.
good luck
