ok, I think you misunderstand us.

I don't think I need to attend church to be saved. I believe in salvation by faith, through Jesus. some churches are not run in a godly manner, some do not feed the poor, some are just "Holy dressed business". Some are genuine though, and are there because they want to have a fellowship of believers who can worship together and also be a part of the community. The church I go to is great, and we're very involved in the community. The money we give to the church does go to good things. I think it sounds good to say buy a homeless person a meal, but not everyone lives in the city, and we can have more of an impact in our communities by being part of the local church.

In the town where I live, there are no homeless people, but there are a lot of poor people. You can't just walk down the street here and find the poor people who could use some help. It's much easier to accomplish things through a church who is active in the community.

I found what you had to say to be quite harsh, the way you said it. But it seems like you're a good person who wants to help other people, and you're probably frustrated with all the mistakes and hypocrisy of Christians. Maybe religion is a mistake, in a way. Maybe people have become too focused on their traditions and not enough on the really important things.

If you've read the gospels, then you know that the things Jesus taught were really good things, that if all Christians followed, would have such a great impact on the world. Many Christians do follow Jesus' ways, and they do have a great impact wherever they are. Also, about one of your first comments there, we do believe we can talk to God anytime anwhere. That's not why we go to church. well, maybe some believe that you only pray in church, but most Christians pray on their own as well. Church services are for worshipping God with others, learning more about Him through the sermon, and having fellowship with other believers.

So, i guess after all that my answer is no. Religion is not the biggest mistake, but hypocrisy is definitely a mistake.

Don't you think that religion is the biggest mistake of mankind?
That is a bad statement.
Your question should have been about "worshiping"
And the statement "IT'S JUST A WASTE OF TIME...
I can get in touch with my supreme being anytime, anywhere...
You ignorants DON'T NEED TO ATTEND CHURCH
TO BE SAVED!!!
The church is just a Holy dressed BUSINESS.
Stop Building Churches you FOOLS!!! AND FEED THE POOR!!!
LOVE YOUR FAMILY... LOVE YOURSELF....
THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN STARVING TO DEATH!!! JUST THINK ABOUT IT... INSTEAD OF GIVING YOUR MONEY TO THE CHURCH, BUY A HOMELESS PERSON A MEAL." Is more correct
But the point should be
( and I do not believe in a god) is theat you should believe in yourself..and not waist so damn much money on some church and if you are going to donate to somthing donate to your local kids..

Well, about the only thing you had right in your little speech is that you don't need to attend church to be saved. Other than that the rest is questionable. How often do you buy a homeless person a meal, cloth someone who needs it, help someone put a roof over their head or help someone get medical attention? Our church and many others do this on a regular basis. Not only in the US but in many third world countries as well. Oh yes, there is much more that needs to be done and many more people are needed to get the work done. With each person you help your heart will grow a little more. Look into the eyes of someone who is desperate for help and you are looking into the eyes of God. How can you turn them away?

No. Communism is. Over 150 million people have been killed by communist regimes in less than a century -- I think that's proof enough of it being humanity's biggest mistake. It's no coincidence that Communism was (actually still is) officially atheist. After all, when God is removed from the picture, it's easy for anyone to justify the sorts of atrocities that Communism has perpetrated in many parts of the world. It's easy to rationalize such atrocities, when one feels that they must answer to no Higher Power, and only have to answer to themselves. .

NO and here is why:
Consider this:
A society is capable of surviving for thousands of years unless it is attacked from within or without by hostile forces. where such an attack occurs, the primary targets are it's religious and national gods and heroes,it's potential of leadership and the self respect and integrity of it's members.
If you look around you , you will find countless examples of these points. They scream at us every day from the newspapers and TV.
Probably the most critical point of attack on a culture is it's religious experience. Where one can destroy or undermine religious institutions then the entire fabiric of the society can be quickly subverted or brought to ruin.
For the last hundred years or so religion has been beset with relentless attack. You have been told it’s the “opiate of the masses “, that it’s unscientific, that it is primitive, in short , that it is a delusion.
The source of this kind of attack is always covert and hidden. It is promoted by a few who have a vested interest in a slave society.
Unfortunately these few rely on creating fear and insecurity in others
to forward and promote their enemy propaganda. These others feel correctly they have to defend themselves from an attack, but because the real enemy is hidden, they can be manipulated to attack what they really should be defending as they cannot see the real enemy.

The key here is that underneath all these attacks on organised religion there is one fundemental target:
The spirituality of man, your own basic spiritual nature, self respect and peace of mind.

You are attacking the very thing that you are also promoting.
Helping your fellow man. All religions if you study them have
this as their basic philosophy. How people choose to pursue this is their own personal choice.
I do not agree with your attitude or what you are asserting.

So what is the point behind YOUR existence? Why do you bother to get out of bed in the morning? A waste of time you say? ...And just what do you intend to accomplish in your life without a belief in a higher cause? Ending suffering so people can live pointless short lives without pain? To what ultimate end?

In a larger view of things, what happens for all eternity is pretty much all that matters to me. Anything that does not have eternal ramifications in some way is what "I" call a waste of time. Still, so what if I waste a little time if in the end you are right and there is no God, it doesn't really matter now does it? So what are you all worked up about?

You have one thing right in my opinion. Most churches are not all that great. But most of them do not irritate people quite as much as businesses do. Why not complain about irritating spam, intelligence insulting commercials, ugly billboards and all the waste of pointless advertising if you are so sensitive to what is a waste of time and money in our society? There are many things that people have to put up with daily without choice. Noone is forcing you to go to church. If you can't tolerate the minimal amount of others'religious expression in our society, you are not better than a bigot.

LOL. This I have heard before

Jhn 12:4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's [son], which should betray him,
Jhn 12:5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?

I agree that the Church (All believers) can do a lot more. But they have done so much that it boggles the mind. Now want to play a silly mind game? Imagine the world with no more church. No more Jesus freaks to bother you. Wouldn't that be grand? Hold that thought.. Want a real life example..? Ask the survivors of Hurricane Katrina what they think about the Jesus Freaks. Then ask them what they think about the government.

May GOD richly bless you.

Some churches do abuse-change what is meant to be a good thing. Don't let a bad apple ruin the bunch=) I believe church is meant for other Christians to come and fellowship together, reach out to people in their community and throughout the world. At least that's what my church does. I haven't been to every church in the world but I imagine they are not all serving God's purpose. At my church, the offering they take goes to help ALOT of people! You don't need to attend church to be saved, you need to believe that Jesus died for you, but once you make that decision I think you might want to go to church, to learn more and to worship the Lord with other believers=)
Pe@ce to you!

Dear osirlater, I also belive religion is a waste of time. religion is mans way of reliving his own guilt and trying to earn salvation. But the BIble says salvation is of the lord, its a free gift, Not earned by religious merit. religion is simply Justification beofre Men, but God sees the inward parts and that which is Higly esteemed among men is an abomination to God. Secondly I dont attend church to get "saved". I have been saved by Gods Grace (undesrved merit). reemphaising my above statemt, we cannot earn salvation ever. I attend Church because since God has saved me, I have a new realtionship with Him and a desire to learn about him and fellowship with other belivers.thirdly I dress nice for church because it simply is respectful. I doubt anyone would go to meet the president of the U.S in torn blue jeans and no shirt! that would be very disrespectful, you would dress nicely. yet many dont realize that we have been given the right to worship the most High God! the least we can do is show him a little respect and dress modestly in order to show some esteem tward the creator who has so graciously saved us.

here is a quick question for you....
if you died tonight and there is a heaven and Hell, do you know where you would go? Do you think you have kept Gods standard (ten Commandments) well enough to merit eternal life? let me ask you a few questions to see how you will do on judgement day.

Have you ever lied (even once--fibs, white lies, etc.)? Ever stolen (anything--the value is irrelevant)? Jesus said, "Whoever looks upon a woman to lust after her, has committed adultery already with her in his heart." Have you ever looked with lust? If you have said "Yes" to these three questions, by your own admission, you are a lying, thieving, adulterer at heart; and we’ve only looked at three of the Ten Commandments. there are seven more to Go, have you ever hated someone? the BIble calls this murder of the heart. Listen to your conscience, you know it was wrong to lie and stel ect. So if God judged you by this standard on Judgement day would you be innocent or guilty? The Bible says you would be guilty, and the punishment for your sin is death and hell. but God has done something wonderful for us. He sent His Son to take our punishment: "God commended His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." He was bruised for our iniquities. Jesus then rose from the dead and defeated death.
Your own so-called “goodness” can’t get you into heaven any more than mine could. Jesus is the only way to Heaven. He is the "Door," the only "mediator." There is salvation in no other name, so Repent (turn from your sin) and put your full and complete trust in Jesus to save you. If you will do this God will save you and grant you the gift of everlasting life.

God Bless

The most stupid thing in this world is allowing mankind do what it did to the bible and never questioning mankind's motive for doing so. Mankind is so busy trying to destroy man that mankind word is now meaning less. We as human being are in such a decline in spirit and hope that death and destruction is something we to look foward to. Why is that? And now because we messed up Gods word. Nothing has any meaning for us anymore. And the only things that churches are looking for now is more money. We are doomed.
