For the first time in my life I hear people saying Allah is a moon god, Muslims pray to Muhammad (pbuh) and all kinds of weird stuff! So I'm just curious to know where and how people learn about Islam.

I'm a Muslim :) But I read a lot of silly remarks here on Yahoo Answers. What are some of the weirdest things you have heard/read about Islam? Muslims and Non Muslims tell me!

well first off i have heard Jesus Christ referred to as a moon god. and the basic thought process of these people is.

that anyone whose birth was marked on a lunar calendar was some form of a moon god.

anyway people like to spout off about things that they know nighting about and they use popular opinion as their source of information.

to anser your question my information comes from Muslim friends of mine that i discuss religion and philosophy with.
and when i see a copy of the Quran somewhere i will probally buy it and read it because i research religions and enjoy religious texts.

I learned about Islam from books that I have picked up out of the library, and from a college course in Islam.
I also have viewed some websites and I have read the Qur'an.
But I don't say that Allah is a moon god or that Muslims pray to Muhammad (pbuh).

The Qur'an.

Allah: Allah is the proper name in Arabic for The One and Only God, The Creator and Sustainer of the universe. It is used by the Arab Christians and Jews for the God (Eloh-im in Hebrew; 'Allaha' in Aramaic, the mother tongue of Jesus, pbuh). The word Allah does not have a plural or gender. Allah does not have any associate or partner, and He does not beget nor was He begotten.

We don't pray to Muhammad. Muslims pray directly to God.

Go to the local mosque and ask the Muslims for more information about Islam. There are also several websites that will provide you with correct and reliable information about Islam.

May Allah guide you to the true path.

Peace.

What I know I have read in translations of the Qu'ran and various books of Islamic theology. I think you'll find that people who seriously think of Allah as a 'moon god' or such stuff are a vocal (but distracting) minority.

their obvious source of Islam is the news media that needs to sell its stories.

these accusations are nothing new. Most of them started during the time of the crusades when the chruch went into a propaganda overdrive.

ADDITIONAL INFO: The weirdest thing I've heard is an American (as usual) asking why Prophet Muhammed (p) flew a plane into the WTC on 9/11!!!!!!!

ROTFWL!!

the ones who say things like that they don't have information from the right sources. but must of Muslims don't know enough or very little about their religion too, but if you want to now something or under stand go to Annemarie schimmel's books , they are very informative and show the modern Islam.

The unfortunate oppression of women tells me a lot about Islam--or should I say how the teachings of Islam are interpreted by extreme patriarchal cultures like the Taliban.
