I am going to UNC Wilmington next year. It is a really big party school. I go to a party or two just about every weekend. They usually consist of:
a) Beer pong and sitting around and talking. Occassional liquor appearances. Large group of people (30ish), most of which are friends.
b) Beer pong, kings, adventures, hooking up. Small group of people (15ish), all friends.
c) Dance party. My favorite. A lot of liquor, a case or two of beer. Small group of 10 or so friends.
What can I expect in college? Obviously in high school there are distinct cliques that restrict parties somewhat. I really enjoy just being with my friends though, where everyone knows each other well. In college, does that go away? I'll have all new friends, but will there be distinct groups like in HS? Are the parties much bigger? Smaller? Different games? Different beer? More dancing? More hooking up?
Thanks in advance.

this is what you can expect from college parties:
alot of cheap beer like natural light
drinking games such as asshole, flip cup, beer pong etc.
lots of hooking up with random people unless you have a boy/girlfriend but then sometimes they just might cheat on you anyway
from my experiences there weren't too many cliques people just wanted other people to show up to their parties
and also if there was one party going on there were at least 10 others to go to if you got bored
and another important point after 21 most people just want to go the bars, parties aren't that cool anymore cause it's just a bunch of underage people wanting to get drunk

Same as they were in Junior high/middle school. Drinking, some drugs, bonding time, lots of socializing, the occasional hook up, police sometimes, etc. When I go to a party I get drunk and maybe smoke weed if I'm feeling like it won't just tire me out and I meet new people that I don't know because they go to a different school or are new. I don't think the parties are crazy, usually, but I guess that's a matter of perspective. I doubt that anyone would pressure you into drinking or drugs if you did go, I never pressure people, they can do what they want, and I'll do what I want.

It's a lot different. Parties are more open to girls, but hell, guys can get into parties too. Just make sure you and/or your crew aren't causing problems. And if you want to party all the time and pay for it too, become a greek. I wasn't, but I do know that you can develop some great friendships out of it
BUT HERE COMES THE WARNINGS (you knew it was going to happen, didn't you?):
You are at school to go to school. Whether you have taken out a loan or your parents are paying for it, remember someone is paying for it. Get an education. That's what you are there for. And it's worth it.
Don't drink and drive AND do not ride with someone who has been drinking. While I know most people don't have a lot of money in college, get a taxi or SafeRide (if y'all have that up there). It's soooooo much more worth it than going to jail
while I know you won't listen...drinking underage is illegal (I did it too, but it doesn't make it right) and there are laws against it. LAWS! don't be stupid.

Go to as many parties as you can when you first get to school. Although most parties are "open" they become a lot less so after a few months and people figure out who they are going to be friends with.
My experience is that you will experience much more standing around.
Probably more hooking up, but behind closed doors, not just on the couch.

What you can expect at college parties: (and I went to Penn State)
a) Beer pong, loud music with about three really drunk girls dancing. Drinking games like Flip Cup (or boat races, if you will) and Keg stands.
b) Depending on where you go to party: Frat parties are run by arrogant ******* (in my opinion). you have to know someone to get in if you're a guy. Girls get in by looking slutty.
c) In college, if you go to a party where there is liquor and strangers, sh1t will happen. With friends its ok, but very few college parties are all friends. Liquor is great way to make sure that the cops show up.
and d) Drugs. Someone, somewhere in the party will have ecstasy, and in at least one bedroom, or out back, people will be smoking up.
I almost forgot to mention the drunken hookups. Most of the time, those work out really badly.
I recommend what we did: Throw two good parties a year. We had rules: 4 kegs, no liqour. No drugs. No ********. And we threw people out who didn't follow the rules. Have fun and be safe.

1) Definitely live in residence if you can 1st year. The experience is invaluable.
2) Parties are the same but better. A lot more bar scene. Cliques are less. Basicly your whole floor in res will be your best friends (no matter who they are).
3) Don't let your school work get in the way of your education

I am not sure how the parties differ. But I suspect you will have aobut two semesters to figure it out. At the end of the first semester you will be on academic probation. After the second semester, you will be dropped for not meeting academic standards.
Learn as much as you can while you are there!
