My 7 month old baby just fell off the bed and he landed on a pillow but he bumped his head on the medal bar at the bottom...I can't keep him awake because it's way passed the time he normally sleeps and he's wore out...what should I do?? He seems alright and I've been keeping a check on him and tickling his feet and stuff to make sure he's still moving..will he be ok or should I go to the emergency room now? Thanks in advance!

GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM! U dont know if he is sleppy b/c he is tired or b/c of a concussion! Dont take that chance especially since u know he banged his head!! Dont come on here to ask- go to the hospital- that is ur child's life u are playing with right now!

This has happened to my son too, and he was/is fine. Yours is probably ok too, but if you are worried, maybe just spend the rest of the evening in the bedroom (you can read with a flashlight if you get bored) this way, if he stops breathing, you'll immediatly notice.
Also, if you dont usually cosleep, maybe consider having him spend the night in bed with you, or in a "nest" on the floor beside you.
And if you do cosleep. other parents might tell you it's wrong for x-y-z reasons, but studies actually shows that it DECREASES the risk of SIDS.
Feel free to email me for co sleeping tips. My 17 months old is still in bed with us (he has a twin bed against the wall with a bedrail on the wall side, and our queen bed beside his).
BTW, I have this theory that one of the reason babies have a soft craniumis so that if they hit their head by accident, the bone will absorb the shock more easily.

I would take him to the emergency room to be sure he is okay. They can do an X-ray to make sure there are no problems; it' s much better to be safe..Once he's checked out properly, you'll be able to rest better. I would suggest keeping him awake until you get there. It is dangerous to let a baby fall asleep after hitting thier head. I hope everything is okay; I am a mother of four myself, so I know what it's like to worry.

Best Wishes

I think he will be okay, but still keep a close watch on him. If you have a feeling that it can be a concussion take him to the ER. My daughter has fallen on concrete several times, and it was tough keeping her awake, but it was for her own good. If you can't keep him awake, just keep a close watch on him. So far I think you've done good checking on him.

All three of my children have fallen off the bed at one point when they were babies. Each one of them were fine. Just keep an eye on him for an hour or so and make sure he is okay. As my Mom said to me "What was your first instinct? If your first thought was that he is ok- than he probably is"

Do not take him to the ER! The waiting room at the ER is clogged with nervous parents who are freaked out because their kids have a hangnail or a skinned knee. Uncool!

My little boy fell on his head many times -- no lasting damage: he's a genius.

Wake him up every two hours... somehow... change his diaper... do the things that you know can wake him up.... apply ice on the head part that he banged- that should definitely wake him up. I understand completely why you are hesitant about going to the ER... it can be very stressful there.... believe me... waking him up every two hours isn't as stressful. If you can't wake him up... definitely bring him to the ER.

If he fell off a bed, i'd probably take him in just to be careful. babies heads are pretty fragile and its easier for them to get a concussion (sp?). And a sign of that is being very sleepy, when people have a concussion (depending on how severe) they have to be watched while sleeping.

I think that you should probably take him to the doctor or hospital just to be on the safe side, because with a baby that small you can never be too careful.
