If they are frightened they can bite pretty hard, but it still does not hurt much. I have had many and they have never hurt me. It just feels like a little pinch.

It all depends on what you consider to hurt bad. A parakeet or budgie is still able to break skin, but they're bite is not as bad as a cockatiel, or a larger parrot.

It can, but most of the time they're just trying to preen you like another member of the flock. Shift your finger so they're biting the edge of your nail. They can hurt you badly if frightened and bite in earnest. And rarley they can do an imitation of a bulldog where they bite and don't let go. If you're hairy and the bidgie hand tamed it may start pulling hair out of your arm and head which hurts.

Definitely tolerably, but it does hurt. My brother's budgie doesn't just bite; she bites and then twists so that she actually breaks the skin (as opposed to just clamping down). I don't know if all budgies do this, or if it's just my brother's bird. Or maybe the budgie's beak is just really sharp by comparison, not sure...
My lovebird has a MUCH bigger beak, but I'm less afraid of his bites. He just clamps down as hard as he can, which does hurt, but he rarely breaks the skin...

No they don't hurt that bad like a parrot but i have both so I'm immune to the non-hurting bite of a parakeet of course not to the bite of a parrot they hurt bad.

yes, especially if the bird has been biting on a cuttle bone. when they want to warn you they will just open their beak.. When you get a little too close, they will lunge toward you and if you pick them up, they will bite the @#$% out of you. i would usually have to wear gloves if i needed to pick up my parakeet. when they bite they hang on for dear life.

I've had worse pain but yes they can cause quite a bit of pain. The only time I've been bitten that hard was when I had my bird for about a month and she got out. I was worried the cat would get her and had to pick her up. She wasn't use to me and was scared so she bit me. She will nip at me now but it isn't very painful if at all.

Yes, the female will grind her beak back and forth the whole time she is biting and both sexes will draw blood.
