Okay the overtype mode is aggrivating me. It will start overtyping my writing at random when I try to edit a word real fast. So I go to the options and change it. It won't overtype for a while maybe two or three times, but suddenly it starts doing it again! How do I keep it from ever overtyping? Do I just have to keep going to options and changing it every time?

You say you type "real fast"? You are probably accidentally hitting the "insert" button which is a toggle -- press it to turn it on, press it to turn it off.

It is just to the right of the backspace button and so is easy to do. You may have to slow down a bit!

is overtype when you are typing and instead of bumping them forward it writes over what you already have there?

Pressing the "insert" key turns that on, maybe you keep accidently pressing insert.

I think it's time to switch programs. Try notepad if you don't need any of the crazy fonts, etc. OpenOffice is a good choice, it's free and can be download here: http://www.openoffice.org/ Microsoft Word tends to have way too many unnecessary options that can bug up easily. Sorry this isn't really a solution to your Word problem, but it may be easier to just switch.

I think you accidentally hit the Insert key. This key toggles between insert mode and overwrite mode.

Hit Insert and your problem should be solved. :)

I don't know if you can. I've had the same random problem. I think Microsoft is trying to make us all throw our computers out the window so we buy new ones. It's the secret plan.
