if so how does someone become so deopressed that they can't live on thier own? What is the requirement for being institutionalized

"just depression" is sometimes hard to cope with. you feel hopeless, can't seem to bring yourself to even bathe, comb your hair....everything seems pointless and like too much effort....the big thing is if you become suicidal. if you begin living your life in these situations or unable to cope, then you need to go immediately and talk to someone. there is help out there for you!!!

When people become a danger for themselves or for others they institutionalize them so they can´t harm anyone. When people are suicidal for example. But in istitucions you´ll find a little bit of everything mostly schizofrenics or people living with psicosis. Wnd yes sometimes people become sooooo depressed they can´t even take a bath because they don´t have the strenght, they don´t eat, etc, etc.

One of my family members has be institutionalized on more than one occasion.
Basically, if you present a risk of harming yourself or others because of psychological reasons or are unable to take care of yourself or others are unable to adjust their lives to take care of you, you may be institutionalized.

some people are so depressed that they are unable to think clearly,it is usually a family member related to the depressed person who have them committed for there own safety,however it is treatable in most cases with the correct medication, depressed people can be suicidal.

There are many other reasons for putting someone in a mental institution. Like Schizophrenia which I don't have. Yes you do. No I don't . He does too. Hey you keep out of this. Yeah mind your own. Be quiet fool. Hey I was talking. Well like I said I don't have it and don't listen to them.

maybe if you are allergic to any sort of meds? and therapy doesn't help that you are so suicidal you can't live without being watched? i'm just guessing. sometimes i wish i was in a mental institution just so someone would pay attention to my depression.

I'm pretty sure the requirment is SEVERE depression that one can not take care of oneself or one becomes homicidal/suicidal.
