I'm just curious if anyone is aware of whether or not it is common for young children to (naively) experiment with their friends sexually? To clarify, I'm not asking whether 5-7 years olds experiment and get turned on, I'm asking if they naively do things that are sexual in nature because they don't know any better.

I'm mostly referring to girls, not necessarily a girl and a boy experimenting. Also, not so much sex as just things that are sexual in nature, like kissing, walking around naked, etc. The reason I ask is because I did this when I was young with my friends (when we kissed, it would be with a piece of paper between us, since we were pretending) but mostly just pretending to be an adult strutting around naked I guess. It was weird, and I don't know the point of it. I also don't know how it started, and I don't think any of us were ever sexually abused. (I never was.) I'm just curious if it's a common thing or not, as I've always been too embarrassed to bring it up.

Depends. I've read books that say that kids will sort of rub up against things because it feels good, not really because it's sexual in nature. But if they're touching other kids, I definitely don't think that's normal for that age group. If they were about 5 years older, I might find it more likely. But if kids are touching eachother in a sexual way at such a young age, I'd look into any possible molestation that might be going on at home. Sometimes they mimick what they see or what has been done to them.

Children are very curious about their privates and the opposite sex privates. I think it is common for kids to say "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" but that's about it. I also think it's common for a child to explore there own bodies. For example, when a child bathes and has to wash their private parts they could experience a sensation they have never felt before and actually like it because it feels good so then they start touching their body parts more often. I would have to say that if a child in this age group knows how to engage in intercourse or oral stuff, they have been shown somehow. You definitely need to investigate how they learned this and if their has been any molestation done to the child. I do not believe kids have any natural instinct to have s e x at this age. Parents should talk to their child and tell them facts that are age appropriate and answer their questions factually and advise what's appropriate/inappropriate. I

I will admit, I did. I don't know if it is normal or not... but when I was 6 me and my best friend (a girl also) did... quite frequently. She was the one who actually convinced me into, telling me she would give me one of her Barbie dolls of my choice if I played. Looking back on it I am quite grossed out about it... but I really did not know any better. It was a game we played called "Boyfriend and girlfriend" (I always had to play the boyfriend role even though I was the more girly one). It wasn't sexual for me at all and I never got turned on by it.
I didn't turn out "weird" or anything at all. I will say though that I do suffer from antisocial behavior and depression every now and then... not sure if there actually related... but other than that, I am not a very sexual person at all and I absolutely find NOTHING attractive about other females... so it didn't make me a lesbian either.

according to dr. phil, its totally cool but the only reason I am wary is because there are so many children out there who have been abused. Then they come over to my house and want to play "lets take our underwear off" and I dont have any idea if they are playing that game because its innocent or because they have been abused themselves so because I dont know where its headed- I dont allow my 5 year old to be alone when she plays- with male or female friends. I was abused as a child and I just can't afford to let them do that. Its too complicated and emotional for me to be okay with it and kids have plenty of other fun things to do so I don't mind stopping that innocent ( or not) game.

Yes,it's normal. Even with siblings. Girls, boys,it doesn't matter. Humans are naturally curious and it only the things we are taught that help us know what is "right and wrong". Nature will tell you how things are supposed to work, but until a child knows...they are curious.

Yes they do in innocence. my daughter though at age seven told her friend that a man across the street held her against the house and felt her, someone told me. I asked her she said no daddy it didn't happen it was the first time I whipped her, and Tears came to my eyes and she got on my lap and she patted me and said its OK daddy I deserved it it was the only time I whiped her.I caught her and her little girl freind in bed with each other they were doing something,I never mentioned it. people experiment it s normal. as long as it doesnt go to far.

NO! I'd be concerned if they did...most 5-7 yr olds don't even like the member of the opposite sex...

Well, if it's normal, it shouldn't be. That's how 13-year-old prostitutes come about. They experiment at a younger age and they tend to get more and more curious until they take it way too far. If a child is experimenting, then something needs to be done right away.

It depends what you mean by experimenting, kissing? sure they see it all of the time, but fondling or rubbing no way then they are seeing something they should not
