My husband eats his food like a mad cow. His whole entire family does. Anytime we eat I am still working on the roll I started and everyone around me is done. I HATE IT> I have told him to slow down nicely but he just gets mad and doesn't care what I have to say. Is it rude to eat really really fast? Is it bad manners?
thanks

If it is really fast, it is not good. Eating really slow is also not good. Everyone at the table should try to eat at the same pace as each other otherwise those that have finished faster than the others will be waiting for dessert while the rest are still eating the main dish. In your case, you will be the only person eating while the rest are ready for dessert or ready to leave the table. How rude!

I eat fast all the time. Of course, I'm used to it, since I have only twenty minutes (usually less) to eat lunch in school. As long as you don't eat fast in front of others (it can either go the right or wrong way; either the host thinks you must really like their food, or you're just eating it to get it over with because it's so disgusting). It would depend on who you, are, where you're with, and what the circumstances are. For instance, when I'm in school, I have to eat fast in order to finish lunch in time for the bell. But if you're at a guest's house, it's best to enjoy the food they've put so much hard work into making for you...or bought from the Jewel down the street.

Some people have more nervous dispositions - they (we) eat nervously, and find they have finished their plate when others, who like to eat at a leisurely pace, have barely started. When I'm in company I sometimes think of slowing down a bit, but I don't think it's a real problem, as long as the person is not eating with both hands in his plate and his face two inches above it! Some people think they need to chew each bite at least 40 times (have you read those 'health rules'?) - I'm exaggerating about the 40, but it does seem to take them an awful long time to get finished while everyone else is waiting patiently to go on to dessert. - Takes all kinds to make u a world, we need to tolerate each other and take things with a grain of humour. If that's the only problem you have with your husband, consider yourself blessed! You should see all the problems my poor wife has with her husband! :)

It's not really rude thought, cuz his whole family eat fast. He grown up in this kind of matter, so it's also not his fault. And, it doesn't really matter if you just started to eat and everyone is done. I'm a slow eater too, and I don't really care what other ppl think of me. It's better to eat slow than fast.

How is your sex life?

The reason that I ask is that years ago I saw a marriage therapist on TV. He said that the first thing he does when he takes on a new couple is to have dinner with him. He claimed that there is a strong correlation between the way men eat and the way they make love.

So -- yes -- eating fast is rude -- but not as rude as the other things he does.

I think it is, especially if they eat fast just to get more food. In some cases it can be unhealthy. Of course when most of us have just 30 minutes for lunch, we have to eat fast. But, if I were you, I'd continue to take my time.

OMG we have the same problem here. I will get his plate ready and by the time I sit down and have 2 bites he's finished! I think he and his bros & sis had huge appetites and if you didn't get to the table on time in their household, you'd miss out. I just remind him that no one else is going to get his food, so he can calm down. It doesn't work though - and it makes me nervous! Grrrr!

I think so. My stepdad does that. Whenever I am over at their house for dinner he gobbles up his food and then looks longing over at everyone else's plate like he didn't have enough to eat. Makes me feel really uncomfortable.

Yes. Food is meant to be enjoyed and shared with other people. We have done so much to disconnect with eachother as a society in the last 100 years. Food should be our time of togetherness.
