Do You know A great Holiday resort in England for kids?

Question

Hi..my 9 Year old daughter and I live in America and want to visit England and I thought a Resort where it will be fun for both of us and my mother, keep us or at least my daughter occupied. I noticed a resort called Butlins. Does any one have an opinion on Butlins or can suggest another fun place to visit for all of us...Thanks

I went to Centreparks when I was about 9 - I am nearly 18 now. I loved it and so did my aunt and uncle that took me. From what I can remember there was a big water area and it had a lazy river around it. Also lots of cycling trails - we rode bicycles everywhere!! I have also been to Butlins and I definately preferred Centerparks. If you don't do a resort there are lots of great places to visit. The coastal seaside towns are great during the summer but like ghost towns during the winter. If you are going during the summer go to Weymouth in Dorset. There is a great beach, a beautiful harbour and loads of historical things. There is a museam called the timewalk which is animated by lifelike characters and they tell you all about the smuggling and history in weymouth. There is also a place called the Nothe fort which was used during world war 2 I believe and now has a museam in it - the dungeons are really spooky!!! There is also Portland about 6 miles from Weymouth where there is the famous Chesil Beach which is said to have risen from the sea over night and the Portland Bill lighthouse on Portland. Also the fish and chips there are the best in the world!!! However like I said Weymouth is a place to go in the summer - dead in the winter!!! In the winter I would visit a city there is still stuff to do - London is beautiful and especially good if you are interested in history - you might even get to see the queen!!

I am sorry but i have to disagree with the Butlins put downs. Centre Parcs is ok but not totally aimed at children. I visited the Butlins in Skegness & was very much suprised. The accommodation was clean & well equipped. The whole place was centred around children & was really good fun. They have everything that children need a great swimming pool, arcades, fair, entertainment & a whole host of shows all free. If i had kids i wouldnt think twice about taking them there.

I have to agree with Centreparcs. I would opt for the one in the Lake District as when you are out of the resort there is plenty to see and do. There is a brilliant car museum which has cars from tv programmes such as the A Team, Only fools and Horses. There is a trip that you can do on the lake on an old steam boat. As we are not renowned for our good weather centreparcs has plenty to do under cover should we have rain. Hmm you want to be careful here. Most of the famous resorts might seem a bit run down, to your eyes.

I can thoroughly recommend Blackpool or Scarborough, though. You will find them culturally interesting, and quite unlike anything you would see in the states. Scarborough's near York too, and you can go to York for the day in the train easily.

I think you would find Butlins a difficult experience, being used as you are to freedom, value for money and good customer service!!

I agree 100% with 'incongru' Scarborough Yorkshire. There is a Holiday park in Filey called Haven, great place for kids of all ages. Similar to Butlins but I think much better!
Also lots for adults to do and see.
As you are coming from the States you will no doubt be interested in all the Historical stuff in the area? The Holiday park organises daily trips all over the area, lots to see in Scarborough large Castle etc. York its self will fascinate you and your family, try and get to see the Viking village in york built on the genuine article!

Hmmm I'd go for somewhere more like Centreparcs. It's a big indoor aqua place. My sister and brother-in-law take their daughter all the time. Lots of water slides, pools and it's relaxing too. Butlins is a bit cheesy, I'd give it a miss!!

well butlins is very popular but the ones i have been to seem dirty. As a kid i went to Whiteacres in Cornwall a couple of times and really enjoyed it.

I would agree that yorkshire is a great destination. however instead of going for the obvious Scarborough, or Bridlington....... Try Rotherham, Doncaster, or Barnsley. loads for the Kids to do, There is the world renounded Metro-Dome, The Magna activity Centre, even Clifton Park.

I would definitely agree with the first answer.Center Parcs is an all weather experience.You will find there are plenty of sites to choose from all over the UK. I would forget about Butlins.Although they have supposedly improved over the years,you will find Centerparcs a much better experience. Enjoy !
