Why would you have to renovate your kitchen for your child? I could see renovating for you and hubby.

We remodeled the kitchen last year to suit us with cabinets lower (i am 5'2" and could never reach the higher cupboards) had new appliances and a breakfast bar put in to accommodate the kids for homework etc. while I am cooking I can help them, hard wood floors with radiant heating. Soap Stone counters (indestructible) drop ceiling with over the cupboard storage for items rarely used, All with a period look our house was originally build in 1890.... Including an under the counter recycling center for our Eco conscious 9 yr old... Cost $32,000... Well worth it we love the new kitchen and it fits all our various needs/wants.. We find ourselves congregating in the kitchen now even when meals are not happening or being prepared...

My mother just renovated her kitchen which is 10x10. Cost 15k and she still has formica counter tops. No new appliances.

Looks great though. Really great. Was worth it. Made the whole house nicer.
