I'm an intelligent person... and this is embarrassing to say.. but I don't know finances and taxes at ALL! Long forms? I cringe to think about filling them out.

Long forms about finances and Taxes????

I'd rather write a dozen term papers.

Now I have to do FAFSA for myself (returning to college), and my two teenagers. How tough IS it? What do I have to have ready and with me before I start the forms?

GO to the FAFSA website, and print down the instructions first -- the ones that say what papers and information you need to have on hand to fill out the forms.

Then go through your last year's information, write in the margins.

After that -- the site is very easy to finish and fill out -- and the response is fast.

The first thing you need to do is go to the FASFA website and request a PIN! It takes a few hours by email, or a few days by mail. KEEP this number in a safe place always!! This will be your electronic signature. You will need it every year as you file for both yourself and your children. Then go to the local high school to get a hardcopy of the forms. Fill out the entire form before you go online to file and submit your forms. You will only need a few things from your 1040 such as: filing status, dependents, social security numbers, income, earned income credit (I may have forgotten something) but is not hard at all.
Best of luck to you and your children.

The instructions are so easy I managed to fill mine out with three screaming kids in the background. Make sure you have last years tax forms readily available and it will tell you what line to look for on your taxes....

Very Easy!! GOOD LUCK

Have your last year's tax forms with you when you start this. It is not that hard. Just read the questions carefully. If you fill it out online you can save it and do part now and part later.

yeah, i agree with single mom up there. it really isn't all that difficult to fill out. just make sure that you fill in all of the required boxes. once i was turned down for help because i forgot to have someone else sign it for me. that taught me to pay better attention to details!

best wishes for financial help from it! hope you get oodles of money! :)

Not really that big of a deal, you'll have step by step instructions usually. Mostly common sense and personal knowledge is all you need.

ask the college you will be attending they have people that can help you and answer your questions.

otherwise-----curl up with the FAFSA and some coffee and or mountain dew its going to be a looooooong night----------it takes a while.

It is just time consuming. Read the directions and you will be ok.
