My 2 yr old did this 2 wks ago. We called the doc and he said as long as my son had no trouble breathing, eating, or pooping it was ok. Gross part is we had to look through his poopy diapers for the rest of the night and the next day for the button. It came out a couple of days later and he's fine now.

His doc did say that if it didn't come out after 2 days, he would have to have an x-ray to make sure there was no blockage. If there was no blockage he said that I'd have to give him a laxative (prescribed by the doc-not OTC) to help him poop it out.

If she swallowed it & didn't choke, she'll be just fine. If you took her to the emergency room, all they would do is take an xray to make sure that it's not in the airways or stuck on the way to the stomach. If it's already in the stomach, it won't show up on xray anyways. If it's a pretty big button, which it doesn't sound like, she might have a little trouble passing it out. Give her apple juice to keep her stools soft. But I really think that she'll be ok and won't even know that it's coming out the other end either. And they definitely do come out, you can keep checking her stools if you're that worried. If I checked my boys' stools every time they swallowed something I'd be the only one in this house flushing the toilet.

My dad when he was younger threw a marble down his sisters throat. A marble is nice and round (no sharp edges) so couldnt do any damage. The doctor just told her to wait for it to come back out. She is only two though. I would call someone trustworthy and ask. Im sure it would be fine but then again it might not be worth the risk. Just make sure she isnt in pain or anything.

All they'll do is x-ray her and tell you to keep an eye for it coming out the other end. :)

If you don't see it in a day or 2, I'd take her to the doctor. You don't want to be in there causing some sort of problem/blockage.

If she is breathing OK and can swallow some water, I'd just keep an eye on her. If she is in any distress at all, I would take her to the E.R. Keep her close tonite, if she's still OK, by morning, she'll probably pass it in the next 48 hours.

Start checking her stool immediately to see if she expelled it. If you don't see it within a week, you may want to ask a physician if they need to do an x-ray. I have heard of many cases of children eating pennies and other small objects, and they always come out in their stoool.

Yeah you should becuase it could get lodged in her intestines and cause a blockage. Take her to the hospital! Better to be safe than sorry!

if it was small enough to get into her windpipe, watch for breathing problems, though they are unlikely to occur. otherwise you'll get it back in the diaper ina few days. but do watch out for pennies they can cause a fever and need medical assistance.

yes, it might get stuck further down. best to let the doc check her out and maybe give her something to pass it out quickly or at least monitor her. an x-ray might be in order, she might have eaten something else when you weren't looking too. why worry not knowing. all the best...
