Hay Girls I am a 24yr.old women with 4 kids all girls ages 7,4,3,2 they sometimes can be a hand full. Well my oldest is growing up and I know thats life but God its too fast, she just got her little women hair down there . Its not a bush but about 3 little hairs. I was thinking doing something special for her like have big girls day out just her and I. I was thinking I should wait until the big one what do you think? We have been talking about this sence she was about 5yrs.old. But its like this came from no where.I She is kinda of happy about it, then she started to cry last night thats when we found out about the hair.She thinks she cant play with her sisters no more or her toys(dolls). I told her this just mean she really have to be a big sister and she can still be a kid just a big kid. Do you think I am going about it the right way? My Mother was not ther for me when I was going through things like this,I learned on my own. Sorry so long

I think it is awesome you have such an open relationship with your child! You are fearless!!! But i don't think every little milestone (a couple of pubic hairs?), merit big celebrations. I agree the first period is a much bigger deal. Mom , you rock, if you keep up this open dialogue with your kids it's all gonna be fine.

Wow, your question almost made me cry since my little girl is about to be 7 too. I guess girls are starting puberty earlier and earlier now. Just be there for her, try not to make a big deal out of her changes. Keep assuring her that she's still a kid and can still play with her dolls. Tell her that's all about how she feels and if she still likes playing with doll that that is fine, after all she is still so very young. At the same time you can start showing her that being a "big girl" isn't all bad, take her out and get pedicures and manicures, let her get a new hair cut and get pampered a little bit, let her pick a new outfit out and buy it for her. End the day with a nice dinner between the two of you, and do what he one person suggested, let her have her own "grown-up" alcohol free drink.

I think its great that you are talking to your daughter about these things you would be surprise of the mothers who don't. seems to me like you are doing a great job by talking with her. I will share something with you. When I was eleven years old and I got the big one my grandmother took out to eat at a real nice restaurant and I had a virgin drink in a grown up glass and she told me that day was the day that i became a young women and I never forgot that. It made me feel so special and important and its something that i will past on to my girls if i ever had any. Just a idea Good luck~~~

Tell her it means her body is growing up, doesn't mean she has to grow up just yet. They have some really good books at the library about this now that you may want to let her read & then talk to her about the books.
I think a big girl's day out would be fun. Maybe let her get her nails painted at the salon, let her pick a movie & go to dinner.

You are right on. treat her like a "lady"...take her out, and do some grown up girly stuff.
And no worries...my poor 8 year old got her period already, and most of the times, girls aren't ready for this kind of change (emotionally) yet. Be her support, and she will be just fine.

starting puberty at 7? I would think that a trip to the doctor is in order before the mall.
