Ok golf people- Make Jack 30 again, today, and put him up against Tiger of today- who would be the world's number one? Would it be closer then Tiger versus Phil or Vijay?

Definitely closer as Tiger vs Jack. Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh are really good golf players, but when Tiger is on his game, there is no competition. I really don't know how Jack Nicklaus would be against Tiger. We just have to wait to see if Tiger catches up to Jack's record majors wins.

It would be ridiculously closer. Here's the world golf rankings-
1 Tiger Woods 23.46
2 Jim Furyk 8.77
3 Phil Mickelson 8.17
4 Adam Scott 7.20
5 Vijay Singh 6.69
This is crazy!! Jack would be alot closer, but Tiger would still be number one. He merely plays golf different that anybody ever has before. One anaylist said Tiger figures out courses faster than everybody else does. That's the difference maker. If everybody in the field can make pro shots, what accounts for the 14.69 points lead over the second best player in the world, when not even a full point separates numbers 2 through 5.

Tiger would dominate Jack even by Jack's own admission. Jack was the world's greatest ever long iron player, a great long putter and the rest of his game except his chipping was pretty good. Tiger hits the ball a lot longer, has significantly more imagination and trouble shots (Jack never needed them), better distance control, better with the short irons, better putter, better focus (even if Jack was excellent). Jack's one area of superiority was course management but Tiger is getting better and may eventually surpass Jack.
Jack was different from ViJay & Phil both of whom are close to Jack but would lose more than they win because of Jack's focus and course management. In conclusion Tiger would dominate but on any given week Jack would win occasionally.

The tour would be all Tiger and Nicklaus. Vijay and Phil wouldn't even be a factor.

I would be interesting to see Jack in his prime play with modern clubs and golf balls. Remember, he could hit a balata ball with a persimmon driver and make it go over 300 yards. Amazing.

That's a tough question. Both are great golfers, but don't forget, Jack set all those records & won all those tournaments with completely different equipment. No such thing as titanium drivers, woods, hybrids. He used wooden drivers which gradually became steel heads. Again, taking absolutely nothing away from Tiger, but I would have loved to see Jack in his prime using today's technology.

I think Tiger would win more than Jack even if they both grew up at the same time using the same equipment. Jack would beat TIger every now and then, though.
