Before taking this medicine

Ibuprofen can increase your risk of fatal heart attack or stroke, especially if you use it long term or take high doses, or if you have heart disease. Even people without heart disease or risk factors could have a stroke or heart attack while taking this medicine.
Do not use this medicine just before or after heart bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG).
Ibuprofen may also cause stomach or intestinal bleeding, which can be fatal. These conditions can occur without warning while you are using ibuprofen, especially in older adults.
You should not use ibuprofen if you are allergic to it, or if you have ever had an asthma attack or severe allergic reaction after taking aspirin or an NSAID.
Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safe for you to take this medicine if you have:
- heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, or if you smoke;
- a history of heart attack, stroke, or blood clot;
- a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding;
- asthma;
- liver or kidney disease;
- fluid retention; or
- a connective tissue disease such as Marfan syndrome, Sjogren's syndrome, or lupus.
Taking ibuprofen during the last 3 months of pregnancy may harm the unborn baby.Do not use this medicine without a doctor's advice if you are pregnant.
It is not known whether ibuprofen passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medicine without a doctor's advice if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Do not give ibuprofen to a child younger than 2 years old without the advice of a doctor.

Technically yes. Most practitioners want you take the Tylenol first, then the ibuprofen 2 hours later. that gives you coverage with more complete pain management, as while one starts wearing off, the other is kicking in. If you take them together you may get relief, but they will peak at the same time and wear off at the same time. So while you may get significant relief, there will be "peaks and valleys". If you take the two medicines on an alternating schedule you will have more complete relief.

Best wishes.

Yes. A friend of mine had a root canal and her dentist advised her to take 3 Tylenols and 3 Motrins (Ibuprofen) for pain every 6 hours. Her dentist didn't want to prescribe narcotics to her, so instead this was the safest remedy for pain.

I wouldn't take both. If ibuprofen helps the pain take it along with Benedryl (which is the sleep ingredient in Tylenol PM). You can use generic Benedryl 25 to 50 miligrams.

Yes, you can. Tylenol is metabolized by the liver and Ibuprophen is metabolized by the kidneys.
The maxiumum amount of Tylenol (acetaminophen) is 4000 mg every 24 hours, and the max dose of Ibuprophen is 1800 mg every 24 hours.

Yes you can. The ibuprofin thins your blood, which makes the Tylenol work faster.
At the hospital, they have you take ibuprofin before pain meds so the pain meds kick in faster

Acetaminophen is metabolized (eliminated by conversion to other chemicals) by the liver. Therefore drugs that increase the action of liver enzymes that metabolize acetaminophen (e.g. carbamazepine, isoniazid, rifampin) may decrease the action of acetaminophen. The potential for acetaminophen to harm the liver is increased when it is combined with alcohol or drugs that also harm the liver.

Do not take them both!

Yes, I do it all the time. No side effects for me. Make sure you have something on your stomach. Motrin should not be taken on an empty stomach
