Stop Snoring Tips

The following tips will hopefully give relief with snoring problems. It's important to remember that different remedies will have varying success depending on the individual.

1)…Elevate your head by sleeping on a thicker pillow or multiple pillows will help reduce your snoring.

2)…Don't drink alcoholic beverages, take sleeping pills, tranquilizers, or antihistamines right before going to sleep, they will cause your muscles to relax and limit your air passage way.

3)…Avoid dairy products, which can cause mucus build-up right before you go to sleep.

4)…If you are overweight, losing some weight will reduce snoring by increasing the space in your air passage way.

5)…Sleeping on your side instead of your back will help to prevent snoring.

6)…A common remedy to prevent sleeping on your back is to sew a tennis ball to the back of your shirt; the discomfort of sleeping on the ball will prevent you from staying on your back.

7)…Try following a regular sleep routine.

8)…Try taking in a little bit of honey before sleeping.

9)…Don't eat a big meal right before bed, if your stomach is full it will push up on your diaphragm and limit breathing passage ways.

10)...Avoid eating "rich" foods such as cakes, cookies, chocolate and pizza.

11)…Sleep on a firmer pillow, a pillow that's too soft encourages your throat muscles to relax and narrows your air passageway.

12)…Inhale steam before sleeping or sleep in a room with a humidifier turned on, which will reduce congestion and moisturize the throat.

13)…Purchase some nasal strips and put them on before going to sleep. Nasal strips will open up your nostrils and allow more air to come in, thus reduce snoring.

14)…If you are a smoker, stop smoking, if that is not feasible then avoid smoking right before you go to bed. Smoking causes inflammation and swelling of the throat.

15)…Take anti-snoring pills or use anti-snoring nasal spray.

16)…Consult a medical profesional if your snoring continues to adversely affect your sleep.

Good Luck

Why don't you both visit the GP and ask for a specialist appointment with an ENT surgeon. They may arrange to do some sleep apneoa tests first to access how bad the snoring is, and then they investigate the delicate membranes of the nose and throat to see if anything could be done surgically.

Other than that the old tennis ball sewn into a garment back might help, as snoring often occurs in people who sleep on to low a pillow, or who have eaten a meal before bed, and who sleep on their back and not their sides. Snoring is also a problem for hayfever, allergy and asthma sufferers, who have blocked sinus's and post nasal drip. Again an ENT surgeon may be able to help alleviate the problem.

Whatever you do, do not gag or tape up the mouth as doing this could kill someone who has breathing difficulties.

Lastly avoid milky drinks before bed, as this thickens mucus and narrows airways.

I have sleep apnea and it can be a serious ailment left untreated. If he is snorting loudly, stops breathing and then snorts even louder, falls asleep the minute sits quietly, he has it as well. He needs a doctors care and checkup at a sleep clinic soon. I had high blood pressure, would fall asleep in front of the computer, at a red light, anytime I sat down and it was because when I did sleep in bed, I quit breathing 60 to 70 times an hour. Of course then I would snort and rouse myself just enough to start breathing again, but not to wake up all the way. This was discovered when I went in for a medical test I had to be put to sleep for. I kept stopping to breath and they were very concerned. I was given a machine called a CPAP machine which fits over my nose and pushes air . I sleep like a log now, am refreshed in the morning and no longer have high blood pressure., which can be caused by sleep apnea. It can also be a factor in some heart conditions.

You may seriously want to have him/her checked out by a neurologist for SLEEP APNEA. I know, because I have it BAAAAAD and I sound like a freeeeeight train in my sleep when I can't use my CPAP ( a machine like a small respirator that keeps breathing equal and healthy for the person with apnea). IF gone unchecked, Apnea can cause serious health problems and even premature death, so don't let your partner blow you off about your being paranoid or anything. It is a Serious problem and can be deadly. Its a simple night in the hospital with sleeping tests and then a small machine on the night stand and a mask on the face at night. Its very soothing and not invasive at all.
Get it checked out, it could mean the difference between a lot of years together or notta lotta years.

Well, I saw on television, a product for that, it was called sleepease and it consisted of putting a special strip over the nose, that was supposed to help you breathe easier if had stuffy nose, and for the woman it stopped her snoring. Now I never tried this product. However, I know there is a specific surgery for curing snoring, ask the doctor. I know what you mean about your partner snoring constantly everynight, and me not being able to sleep, I experienced that already, it even gave me anxiety, and I couldn't relax until he left my place. And it was one of the reasons for me ending our relationship. mermaid199

Nudge them slightly, and get them to sleep on their side.

Also here's a trick.... go to sleep 1st, and tell them to go to bed after you, this way you beat them to the snoring punch.

Now if their snoring wake you up.
God help you.

The nose strips are really good. My husband just used them last night. I had one of the best nights sleep I've had in a long time.

Call your dentist, there are new devices that help prevent snoring. If your partner has sleep apnea, it may even be covered by insurance.

you gonna have to get them to the doc so he can do a minor surgery on the nose and maybe remove adinoids. there is no home remedy for this and anyone who tells you there is is just plain blowing smoke. once the person has this done they will rest better and breathe better.
