NO. The reasons are that this died with the end of the first Apostles, they needed to speak and hear in languages they did not know for the sake of spreading the gospel to new lands. This was possible through the Holy Spirit.
What is now called the charismatic movement claims speaking in tongues is still a part of the charisms Christians are given.
The only way this would be valid is if the person spoke a known language that someone else understood, then it could be translated. The speaker should have no knowledge in speaking that language at all (speaking greek while not having any training in speaking that language). There should be someone that understands the tongue spoken, because the message given by the holy spirit should be interpreted/translated as well to the rest of the people around.
What we have now is people speaking in giberish, with no one understanding it because it is a language that is spontaneous, not a real language, (like speaking klingon in a Star Trek show).
An actual example: (found in the link below)
Vennari quotes an interesting test made by Jerry Matatics during a session of “speaking in tongues.”
In such sessions each one who “receives the Spirit” starts to pronounce incomprehensible sounds that are interpreted by a monitor directing the meeting, supposedly an expert in the way “the Spirit” manifests itself. Matatics simulated having received such “Spirit” and gave the impression that he started to speak in tongues. Actually, he was just repeating one or two sentences of a psalm in Hebrew; he understood the meaning of the words perfectly. The interpreter, who didn’t know a single word of Hebrew, gave a complete different meaning to the sentences. An irrefutable proof of a shameless charlatanism.

It is as relevant today as it was during the times of the apostles. All Gifts of the Spirit still happen to this day but not many have the power of the Holy Spirit in this decedent day and age.
Just remember it means nothing if it is not done out of compassion and for the greater glory of God!
1 Corinthians 13:1-2 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

I believe it is, because I believe that all the gifts of the Spirit still operate today. However, we all make mistakes as humans, and I know that sometimes when someone is using the "gift" of tongues, they're really just faking it. I've heard some pretty ridiculous tongues and interpretation. One time a lady was repeating one syllable over and over, then her husband pretended to interpret, and it was really long and elaborate to be an interpretation of the one syllable the lady kept chanting.
I've never been led to speak in tongues in a meeting, but I've used it on my own, and it seemed that I was being led by the Spirit. If I used this gift in a meeting, and nobody had an interpretation, then I would have to say that God wasn't really leading me to say whatever I said (if anything). I would feel that I was mistaken.

Yes, but the apostate so-called "Christian" movement has greatly apostatized the true nature of speaking in tongues and the gift of tongues. The ONLY time the gift of tongues is actually used is when an ordained representative of Jesus Christ empowered with His priesthood is using the gift of tongues to teach others of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints enjoy this gift when they are called to teach the gospel in a language not their own. They spend time learning the language for where they have been called, and then when the need arises the Lord endows them with a portion of His Spirit that blesses them with the gift of tongues to help others learn of the gospel from these properly ordained ministers of Jesus Christ. Apostate churches today have prostituted this gift into a carnival side-show attraction where people get up on a stage and yammer and jammer a bunch of nonsensical jibberish that means nothing. That is how the truth gets distorted into a display that has no resemblance to the actual gift of tongues that was spoken of anciently.

Some Christians say tongues are not relevent today and some say tongues are very relevent today. Both can show scripture to back up what they believe. It will always be disagreed upon. I don't know, myself, But God knows for sure.

Let's see. God is going to make me talk in a "tongue" that I don't understand, and that the people around me likely aren't going to get either. That is, if what is coming out of my mouth is actually some coherent language and not just gibberish. Why would something like this ever be relevant? How is babbling incoherently a miracle? My baby did it when she was younger. It was cute, but I'd hardly put it in the "miraculous" category.

No, that was done in the days of the Bible....long ago....I don''t need to hear anyone speak in tongues....it does me no good and doesn't bring me closer to God. I don't believe only certain people have the Gift of speaking in tongues....I have seen people believe that they were less of a person because they hadn't received the gift of tongues yet. That's sad. It makes other people feel left out at church.

Well according to a religion called Holiness, u can learn to speak a different tongue if u are accepted into heaven. also i think it happens alot in the big spiritual movements that this planet has every once and awhile. I think it is relevant actually but im not quite sure why to be honest with u. I just have this feeling.

I will try not to offend anyone here.....
But I don't think speaking in tongues is relevant to anything. If there is a God......it doesn't matter what language you speak. He will be there for you.
Speaking in tongues doesn't make you anymore important to a God than not speaking in tongues. It doesn't make you more worthy of a God's love.

Yes, I believe speaking in tongues is relevant for today, just the same as salvation is still for today.
