Well, I really don't know about gaining weight... I would par that up on... "eventually."

Taking laxatives to get rid of food that you have eaten is another form of bulimia. People with bulimia binge and then purge... However, purging isn't isolated to regurgiating or throwing up. People who purge could either 1) throw up, 2) take laxatives, and 3) exercise excessively with no end. Throwing up and taking laxatives, BOTH eliminate everything you just ate as a means to control, however, BOTH have a lot of the same consequences.

While taking laxatives can save your teeth from repeated exposure to acid being forceably removed from your stomach, laxatives can cause ulcers and damage to your intestinal tract.

Not eating and taking laxatives CAN cause rapid weight gain because as your need for food increases, your metabolism slows way down to keep your body from eating itself (yes, a person's body can begin to eat itsefl starting with fat, then muscle, and then organs). And with bulimia, you do eat... eventually. Laxatives keep the weight off as long as you keep taking them, but remember with any form of bulimia, you run a HIGH risk of dehydration, malnutrition (as you get rid of the food before you absorb any nutrients from it), and organ failure.

As a diet, taking laxatives is NOT a good idea, and it isn't recommended by any means.

So, laxatives CAN cause you to gain weight in the long run, especially after your metabolism gets slowed down.
