"To light a candle is to cast a shadow" made by the Master of Change in the book "A Wizard of Earth Sea" Excellent book read it if u get a chance. It means to think of the positive and negative of a situation before taking action. I feel that this is an important life lesson and so i live by it. Now don't think i am depressing. I am just very interested in the deeper message.

"That which does not kill us makes us stronger." It may sound cliche, or cheesy. But if you think about it, those are true words of widom. Most anyone will tell you that even if they would choose not to re-live an experience over again (or that if they had it to do over again, they would do some things differently), they think that they are smarter, and better off for having gone through what ever it was.
If you survive it, you probably will come out of it having learned a very valuable lesson.

its an african proverb "the lion while hunting makes no noise"
it applies to me because it helps me keep my mouth closed, I have a big mouth and it helps me remember I can get things done faster if I keep my mouth closed,
this one i came up with it on my own, or at least ive never heard it before
"my life is my own the rest of the world is just here to surround me"
helps me remember to be careful of what i do because im the only one responsible for my life/ and that i cannot blame others for what goes wrong in my life

"We are all kings and pawns." Napoleon Bonaparte
This applies to us all because some pawns become kings with a lot of effort and a bit of luck, (or a bit of effort and a lot of luck, I forget which it is)... some people are born as kings and some of us are pawns and choose to do nothing about it. Other kings are demoted to pawns. This reference is in regard to a game of chess obviously, as well as life.
This is all relative to the effort we put forth in life.

I have two...
"You can stand me up at the gates of Hell but I won't back down." - Tom Petty
"A lie is best hidden between two truths."- from a X-Files episode
I always stand up for what I believe in. The second quite reminds me to look between the lines.

If It's to Be, Then It's up to Me. Very inspiring, an old friend told me this some time ago. He saw it while sitting in an unemployment office.
