I like wet flys [Mickey Finn] fresh and salt water. Popper bugs and dry flies are also good for some bass. Fly fishing is the best sport.Go for it.

Hi I'm John,

I've got some suggestions for you, pick up a copy of "Fly fishing for Dummies"

as well as you, didn't mention what area you live in or your home waters..." the lakes or rivers you fish on a regular basis"

For example; I live in the Yukon Territory and I mainly fish for lake trout and Northen pike...I have 2 different fly rods, one is a 5-6 wt and the other is a 8wt.

Or when I'm after artic grayling I use small flies that are sizes 12 to 14... some are dry and the others are wet flies.

There several website that are loaded with info, for new flyfishers like your self..!

I wish is was that easy. You need to find out for where you are fishing. Some streams like the San Juan in New Mexico they use almost microscopic size flys, hook sizes in the 20-22 size range.

I've seen guys on the White River in Arkansas using streamers that look like bass lures.

Every stream, time of year and weather conditions might require a different type of fly. You need to read up on it call the local fly shops they can get you in the ball park.

There are hundreds of options depending on your area, waters, and species your fishing. Best bet is to go to your closest fly shop or sporting store. Most of them are very knowligable on the subject and can point you in the right direction. Also a lot of them, at least in my area, will post a list of the best flies for the local water ways and current season.
