Can we use alcohol swab to disinfect wounds in parakeet?

I asked in another question about using neosporin to treat wounds. As an after thought I realized I have alcohol swabs as well but yahoo answer wouldn't allow me to change my earlier question hence I am posting this one.

I would like to know whether I can use an alcohol swab to wipe the wounds on my parakeet (before applying neosporin or whether I apply neosporin or not) to disinfect if necessary. My parakeet is a new mom that laid and hatched 3 eggs so far (4th might hatch today or tomorrow).

Thanks.

I'm not sure, but I can tell you who WOULD be sure:

Check out their forums and ask there, most of the people answering questions there REALLY know birds.

Do NOT use alcohol swabs anywhere near your bird. The fumes will kill it.
Take the poor little thing into an Avian Vet for treatment, or at least call the vet for advise.
What are the wounds caused from? If there is something in the bird's cage that is causing the wounds, then remove the item.
Besides, Neosporin has a disinfectant in it already.

No, Do not use alcohol, this will burn the bird, simply wash the wound with mild dish soap and rinse well.
Apply the neosporin.

i do not know if she will like alcohol it might sting and burn...have you thought about peroxide....neosporin i think would be good for the bird if she does not lick it and get poisoned by it....so i would really call a vet to be sure...i would not want you to go by what i say or anyone else without knowing for sure...

i don't know about alcohol it might burn and irritate the skin, best bet is to clean with soap and water then apply the neosporin it works great i have used it on all my animals from dogs to cats and my horses also. it won't hurt to use it. but i wouldn't use the alcohol.

Call an avian vet. Where are these "wounds" coming from? Somethings wrong here.

Oh yea sure you can. Or if you don't have it, urine helps.

You think I'm joking right? No i'm serious, your pee, your moms pee, anybody's pee CAN help wounds.
