It depends on the state's cut off date. for ex: In Illinois a child must be 5 by Sept 1 to start kindergarten so for your child, the child would start kindergarten in september of 2010.

It depends on your school district for kidergarten. Some want them 5 before they start, some as long as they will turn 5 by
12-31 it is good enough.
Head start has their own cut off date.

They should start when they are 5 and when they know their abc,1-10, their shapes,and they kind of know how to write their names, and their colors, and when they know how to use the bathrooms. thats kindergarden!
preschool is when they are 4, know 1-5, and kind of know their abcs
