You're probably talking about the "Babel Fish" from "The Hitch- hiker's Guide to the Galaxy", the classic comic sci-fi novel.
In the book there's a conversation between a man and God that goes something like: (I don't think I'll have it down completely right)
God: I refuse to prove I exist, for proof erases faith, and without faith I am nothing.
Man: But you've already proved it with the Babel Fish.
God: Oh, I never thought of that. (disappears in a puff of smoke)
Man: That was easy. (crosses street and gets hit by a bus)
That's the basic way that goes.

God is no fish he is a spirit and therefore non-coporeal the fish is a catholic symbol allegedly having to do with the Apostle peter who was a fisherman before following Jesus this however is only their POV and not scriptural Gorbalizer

The fish is a good symbol for Christians. They ARE fish. They will fall for anything: hook, line and sinker.
