Death, fire and depopulation were the only ways that the Black Plague finally burnt out and stopped hitting the world, but that took over 300 years before the waves stopped hitting.

Back then the only cure for the Black Plague, and the only treatment was death, fire, or successfully hiding during and outbreak and not getting sick.

The people of the time didn't know about the needs for hygiene and pest control. In fact they helped to make the Black Death worse by killing the cats, which allowed the rats to multiply along with the fleas on them, which carried the Black Death. They also never tired quarantines, except in one case, which would have stopped or even slowed the disease's progress.

The Black Plague raged across Asia (starting in the early 1330s), the Middle East and Europe until the last outbreak in London. It would have probably continued except that Great Fire of 1666 destroyed most of London and drove out the rats.

The only way the Black Plague ended was when it killed enough people that it's survivors were resistant or not infected. There is a famous English village that still had the Black Plague and worried about spreading it. They posted a guard that would shout at people to keep them away from the village. They did this until the plague burned itself out. There is a rock outside of where the village once stood that people would leave denotations of food and supplies on to help the courageous villagers (of course most of them died).

The Black Death or the Black Plague came in waves like the flu does today. It may have even come from the same sources. Unlike the flu the plague virus doesn't mutate as often. Since hygiene was unknown it would re-infect the population time and time again. Finally, a period came when the disease wasn't carried through Europe, mostly because the trade that carried it broke down. This is why it had such a profound influence on the Western World. The huge death tolls made a single person's labor worth something, which gave rise to the middle class.

The Black Plague is still alive in the 3rd world today and the US Military still gives out shots for it to everyone that goes through Basic Training.

Manan T is correct the Pope was almost roasted alive by the fires that were kept around him, but only isolation would save them. Other nobles tried the same tactics, but their science was faulty and incorrect.

Boss and Jade were right, the Great London Fire of 1666 which destroyed most of London and killed a lot of people was England's only way to finally clear out the virus. London had buried clay pipes for feeding water to the houses and business. To get to those pipes the firefighters had to dig under the street and break into them, which dropped the water pressure. Otherwise the fire trucks used a steam-powered boiler to spray the water out of its tank, needless to say the fire plug was invented after London was rebuilt.

The London plague outbreak of 1665 and 1666 ended abruptly. A fire broke out in a baker’s house and, due the fact that London was primarily constructed of narrow alleys and poor timber houses, quickly engulfed the city. Most of London was destroyed. With it died many of the rats that were carrying the plague-infected fleas. The plague quickly died out following this fire and would persist as sporadic outbreaks for three hundred years.

It's been a while, but I still remember some of it from World History.

Firstly, they crammed infected people into this house with horrible conditions so that they couldn't spread the disease to uninfected people. Although this was inhumane, it was pretty effective in decreasing contamination, because no contaminated person would remain in society for too long.

Secondly, they figured that something like "fire" could prevent the black death from spreading, so they always had fire surrounding important people like the pope. I know its kind of weird?

thats all I remember, but I hope it helps.q
