Please help me resolve a friendly dispute with my hubby. Is it proper to use a knife to help one push peas onto a fork? If, for example, a person has peas or corn he or she can't get onto their fork, what is the most polite way to accomplish the task? What does conventional etiquette say about this?

Ettiquette says use your spoon or a peice of bread as a "pusher." Not everyone care about the exact manners, in fact they have gone downhill quite a ways. Anyway, I try to keep to the "correct" ettiquette while eating out or with others but I like to just be comfortable at home, sometimes that means eating with less than perfect manners. For other such questions take a look at the Emily Post books. She was the expert on manners for quite a long time and printed several books on the matter. They are very lengthy as they cover everything from how to greet someone to how to bow before royalty.
