I remember hearing, once upon a time, that video games on a LCD TV could cause irreparable damage to the screen. It had been suggested to me that a CRT is more appropriate.

Is this still true? Thank you.

David H is correct.

I don't worry about this issue, as video games are unlikely to harm an LCD TV or monitor unless you leave the same high contrast image on for a very long time (you probably want to turn it off when you go on vacation). While LCDs don't suffer from "burn in" in the sense of phosphor degradation like on CRTs and plasma displays, they have their own burn in mechanism. The most common names for it are "image retention" or "image sticking". It was a much bigger problem with early LCDs, when materials and designs were less mature, but can still happen to a marginal unit or under extreme conditions. If it does happen, it can sometimes fade or be reversed but not always.

But it should for sure look great right after being installed by someone who's done extensive research on the matter :)

Burn in is still a problem with all non CRT tube units however it less of one now unless you put the same picture on the screen for a long time or very frequently.
A church bought a very pricey 60 inch LG unit and hooked it up to a lap top with a description and raffle offer for the TV they kept it on for a month and when it was won the page that was being displayed from the laptop was permanently burned into the image.

LCD don't get burn in. Never have never will. Plasma back when they first came out and some of the poorer quality units like Vizio still have some problems with burn in.

I work for http://www.hdinstallers.com as a professional installer for the past 8+ years so I answer these questions all the time and have done exstensive research on the matter.

I wish people who really don't know the answers wouldn't just guess. It ruins the value of Yahoo Answers.

no playing video games on your LCD or plasma doesn't hurt that as long you don't pause the the screen for a long time burn in has always been a issue with all TVs most manufactures realize you are going to play and even some have a game mode in them which is a fancy way of turning down the contrast. lcd been around for years on computers it safe enjoy your xbox

I also heard this. Something like it can burn an image into the screen. That's what I heard, don't know if it's true or not.
