I recently purchased a Hitachi CP-X260 and it is fantastic. I would make sure you get a projector that has the brightest lamp possible. The brighter ones are easier to see with the lights on. Also, check how far the projector can actually project. Lastly, you might want to look at things like warranty, how long the bulb lasts, how much a replacement bulb is and whether or not the projector comes with "goodies" like a remote control or laser pointer.

If you are looking for a projector under $2000, Panasonic PT-AE9000 is a very decent one. I owned this projector for over a year now and am very happy with it.

You didn't give a price range or what kind. Assuming you want an HDTV projector, the prices range from about $3000 (Sharp DLP see http://www.projectorcentral.com/sharp_z3000.htm) to $60,000 (top grade CRT projectors). Right now, I would go for the Sony SXRD front projector http://www.projectorcentral.com/Sony-VPL-VW100.htm
Aso good are the Yamaha http://www.projectorcentral.com/Yamaha-DPX-1300.htm
Don't forget about the screen; if you are going high-end, get Stewart Filmscreen Greyhawk or Firehawk.
