i just read a question from a person who either needs to go to a psychologist or psychiatrist, or if he was joking, well...we dont need to go there. anyway, most of the people answering his question said that the questioner needed some mental help quickly. yet, there were a few christians (or god believers) who answered with just seek "god" and "he" will cure you. there was no mention of psychiatric help. do some christians truly believe that their god and only their god will cure them of illness, whether it be mental or physical?

to those of you who have answered with examples of how doctors couldnt cure a sickness, but somehow, it was cured through prayer, god, etc.:
i am not saying that i dont believe you, because it may be as you say. if it is, then wonderful, im happy for all of you. but hear me out.
what if, because of all the encouragement from friends and family praying and wishing a full recovery, the person in question got well, not because of god, but because they themselves wanted to be healed. what im saying is... what about mind over matter? (kind of like the quote: "there is no spoon" in the Matrix movie).
what if the person believed so much with all of their body and soul, that they were going to be healed, that they actually did it, themselves?
do you think that might be possible, or do you still think god did it?
once again, im not here to insult you or offend you. its just an honest question about other possiblities.

it is sad to say that yes some Christians do believe that.
but most Christians believe the doctors are a gift from God,
and not all Christians believe that God is still in the healing business.
but he is.
I have seen too much to not believe.

Christians should seek medical care insofar as practitioners can help treat whatever ailment they may have, but doctors aren't miracle workers. I have a friend who was diagnosed with advanced non-Hodgkin's lymphoma nine years ago, and after eight months of chemotherapy and radiation did little to stop her cancer's spread, hundreds of people from her church came together and prayed for her to be healed. Not that God HAD to heal her, but her tumors could not be found in an MRI she had a few weeks later. Bottom line, don't think doctors can do everything and don't think God won't or can't do anything.
For that matter, I went to about a dozen doctors over a three-year period starting five years ago to try to find out what the deal was with symptoms I was having including numbness, tingling and pain in my arms and legs. Doctors ruled out MS, Lyme disease, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and a few other possibilities before finally diagnosing me with fibromyalgia. I have had people pray for me to be healed, but I have learned more about God's grace and have learned to persevere so much more by going through this than I would have if I'd been healed. And if I am learning to trust God more while I am going through these things--and I've been learning so much--how can I complain since what the Bible says is true about God not giving us a greater burden than we can carry with His help? The issue isn't what we go through or that we are or aren't healed physically, mentally or emotionally, but that we use all the resources that God has given us and just trust Him to give us what we need, when we need it.

I believe that we should all be informed about health. Why would someone believe just anything a doctor tells them? Doctors don't know everything. Doctors will prescribe meds when all you needed was to learn about nutrition. We all need to do some research when we have problems, rather than believing anything we're told by doctors. There are things they know and there are things they don't know.
But I do believe God can heal someone. I think we need to be responsible enough to go to the doctor and get things checked out when there is a problem. If there is something that can be done about it, and we're not opposed to it (for example, I'm opposed to antidepressants because I wanted to die when I was on them) then we should do what can be done. But we can also pray for healing. Sometimes people are healed by God. For those who don't believe in Him, people are miraculously healed sometimes. Believe what you want about how it happens, but doctors have been amazed by a lot of miracles.
Anyway, my point is that a balanced view of things is necessary. I have faith that God could heal me, but I think we have to take responsibility and look after ourselves as well.

Well first of all I do not know who or what you are referring to. However God has healed me. God made a Brain tumor disappear in my nephew.I have seen many miracle healing in my family. That being said have you ever watched the news, read a paper ? Doctors kill all day long, make mistakes , remove wrong parts, leave instruments in you. Doctors killed my Mom ,
then my Dad, then they sent my brother home as they found nothing wrong, he died. I could go on and on.How about the doctor who was doing surgery on man back wide open decides to go to bank.. I am sure they are some real doctors out there .
I go with God .I promise a pray never killed anyone !

I believe that health care from a doctor, combined with prayer is what is needed for people. God gave doctors the knowledge to help sick people, and gave His people the knowledge to know when to seek medical care. And yes, God CAN and WILL heal people without doctors, but only when He chooses to do so and if it is His will.
And Spooky, the reason we thank God when we are well again, is because we enjoy thanking God in ALL things, not just our health, but in every aspect of life because it is He who gave us our beautiful life on this earth which everyone seems to freely enjoy!

As a Christian I believe that God does heal. But he also does use Dr.s as instuments in that healing. But there has been a time in my life when the Dr.s didn't know what to do, and God healed me.
I was born with a valve in my heart that was stuck open, the Dr.s had never seen it before, I was the first reported case. And God healed my heart, because what happened was when that valve was stuck open, my heart was pumping out too much blood.
God healed me.

Well let me see how to say this.... God will heal you physically or mentally, it takes faith and prayer. But you may also go to the doctor. Many people when they go to the doctor to have surgery or any other types of treatments will pray for saftey and God's Will and also that God may guide the surgeon's hand to keep them safe. Its not saying that only God can heal you. Because of free will and such....
yeah, I hope you understood my ramblings

i've got faith that as quickly as I get ill or harm then its got here approximately for a reason, yet I even have faith that God could desire me to work out a doctor. the situation which you have is which you seem to equate believing in God with Him appearing miracles for me on the inspiration of that faith. Thats no longer actual. How are we to correctly known the potential by potential of which the Lord will heal us? we'd awaken contained in the morning and be completely healthful back without ever wanting to work out a doctor, or God ought to be working for the duration of the physician to assist me. in basic terms because of the fact we have faith contained in the capacity of the Lord doesnt recommend that we expect Him to do each tiny little concern for us. Thats why He gave us intelligence and loose will - some issues we would desire to continuously do for ourselves. God doesnt micromanage - He is familiar with the thank you to delegate.

In my experience, many religious people will pray for you and tell you to pray to god to be healed, but as soon as they get sick, they run off to the doctor. If they find out they have a terminal illness, they blame the medical establishment for not healing them. If they get better, god gets the credit. And don't even get me started on alternative medicine.

Here is a perfect example for your question.
A storm was dumping tons of water into an area and soon it was starting to flood. A Christian man got onto his roof because the water started to rise up in the house.
He kept praying to God, please rescue me from this flood and save my life! I KNOW YOU WILL SAVE ME! I BELIEVE YOU WILL!!
So a boat came by him with people, they said, get in the boat, come on in!! He said, "NO, GOD WILL SAVE ME"
So they went on by, He kept praying to God, please rescue me from this storm, from this flood!
A helicopter flew around the house and was hovering over his house. They dropped a person down and they said, "Come on, put the rope around you and we will take you up into the helicopter." The man refused and said, "NO, GOD WILL SAVE ME." the rescuer looked at him funny and said, "OK" then up he went.
So the water got to the point where it reached the man's face, he took one last breath and slipped away into eternity. When the man got to Heaven, he said to God, "God why didn't you save me from the flood, I kept praying to you and asking you?" God said to him, "I sent you a boat and a helicopter to rescue you, WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM ME." GOD ANSWERED HIS PRAYERS BUT IT WAS NOT IN THE WAY THE MAN WANTED HIS PRAYS TO BE ANSWERED.
God gave us doctors to be able to help us with sickness and to be able to help find cures. YES GOD WILL HEAL AND CURE YOU, but he more than likely use peopel do fulfill that prayer request! I believe it is when you call upon God in the time of well, when it is out of the hands and control of doctors. When you have given your all, the doctors have, and they cannot any further. That is when people should call upon the name of the Lord, but they should do it FIRST and seek His advice.
