There are several good medications for "SAD" (Social Anxiety Disorder).

Before treatment can begin, the doctor must conduct a careful diagnostic evaluation to determine whether your symptoms are due to an anxiety disorder, which anxiety disorder(s) you may have, and what coexisting conditions may be present. Anxiety disorders are not all treated the same, and it is important to determine the specific problem before embarking on a course of treatment. Sometimes alcoholism or some other coexisting condition will have such an impact that it is necessary to treat it at the same time or before treating the anxiety disorder.

I would suggest that you think about taking an antidepressant. Most of these drugs are clinically approved to treat anti anxiety disorder. I'm not sure how you feel about this, but if you have an opportunity to live a better life, it should be worth consideration.

The downside, is with todays antidepressantans are very physically addictive and you should educate yourself about them first before you decide taking something.

For more info on the prescription and effects of antidepressants go to this website and on the left side, scroll down to "all about antidepressants" and it will tell you everything you need to know.

I had this problem when I was in school too. Now I just avoid situations where there are a lot of people. It doesn't sound like you want to do that so here is another suggestion. Focus on your breathing whenever you get nervous. Keep your breathing slow and the other body functions (heart rate, temp, blood pressure) will follow suit and slow down. Practice deep breathing exercises every day so you will be able to use then when you feel nervous.

Medication might be able to help as well as therapy. Try both approaches.

This is a simple imbalance issue that can be eleviated with a simple medication that's safe enough for pregnancy! There are a number of meds, one is Zoloft and your regular doctor even your pediatrician can put you on it. If the doctor decides that you should wait till you're 18 to be on it, then a psychologist can coach you in anxiety management. Simple, yet very effective techniques can be taught including breathing exercises etc.
Good luck. You're very lucky to know what you have and be so articulate in expressing it. There are people who go through years of misery and not know that what they have has a name and a cure.

dude your on the same road as me :) Ive put up with it for all my life, i was pretty much born with it. Horrible feeling!! i can say social anxiety is the worse their is as social life is basically life isnt it lol ans its gotta be put to the max i got prescriptions, didnt really help me, helped me a bit but like.. .it was still their, the thing is it isnt really to do with mental health even your doctor may say otherwise, from my experience its just the way your life has been constucted or maybe you were just born with it. But i know the feeling, i can really understand. Sometimes, if the medicine doesnt work, then just say to yourself, "am i gonna let this stupid disorder control what and cannot do and experience" its just a deal with it thing :( :( sometimes it can be linked to the past! i have a friend who actually completely got rid of it. I would strongly recommend you get a prescription, and do as your doctor ses, as my social anxiety was very severe. Depending on yours, ask yourself "Is this affecting my life" "Am i coping" If you have a "no" then i would go and see the doctor, the pills can really settle it for a while. :) I learned to cope with it as i eventually found the pills didnt work and i completely just ignored it and concentrated on something else, its hard but you learn from experience, And yeh, if you want my opinion, the medicine just like helps you chill, it lasts quite a while and you can concentate on what people are saying, the medicine is a good start, and will help you as your talking to people and learning to cope while the disorder is knocked out. But its not a cure :( you have to learn, how did this start, why, and find out what is causing it and eventually you will naturally learn to tackle it. Life is short Dont let this stupid, pointless disorder bring your lifes potential down Best of luck ^_^

I have this really badly too.

I think you're too young to be put on medications straight away-once you go down that route it changes the whole scenario. You'll probably always be shy/nervous around people, but you're still very young and you've recognised your problem, which is a good start.

Have you got a close friend?...Maybe you could confide in them-that way you'll always have someone who can try to understand what you're going through.

Most importantly though, try not to avoid situations,or at least don't become reclusive.

Take care

Hey. I'm 14. I have no idea what you are going through, but I do know how stressful school can be. Maybe you should find one person who you can really get along with. Get to know them better. Maybe they can slowly inroduce you to some of their other friends. Good luck. I hope it get's better, because 8th grade for me was the best year ever.

Some stuff you can do, is eat well , take lots of vitamins to help fight the stress, since it wears you out.

also try to remember that you are not alone in your problem and that a lot of people go through this.

I have fought with it my whole life, just don't let it bring you down to much...
