We're living in a global economy. It will be much harder to compete if you don't learn a foreign language.

It's self-enriching and even helps you understand how your own language works. Some people learn a language because it's part of their ancestry (I am part Cherokee, and have started learning it for that reason). Depending on what you study in school, it may be beneficial to learn a specific language (such as Hebrew and/or Greek for the Bible), and it is almost always a positive when applying for a job. I learned Esperanto on my own simply because I found it to be something I enjoyed doing.

I'm not concerned with the 10 points. however, learning foreign languages makes you knowledgeable(smart) you can speak to other cultures and make a variety of friends.if you use English to me Spanish is easy to learn and if you like it try french or both.i had an elderly friend i was young he spoke 5 foreign languages. you could not help but admire him he was trying to teach my babies as i had a girl and boy later on.so i learned different languages. spanish in school and some from him. so learn all you can now later you will be your own gem. as in being admired. do it for yourself and goodluck. thanks

Languages aren't just different ways of speaking, they're a reflection of their culture. For example, French has literally dozens of ways to say, "I love you," each with subtle shadings and levels of meaning. Chinese has no real "tense," so past, present, and future are all one, implied in speech by context.
Learning a language not only lets you communicate with people from other countries, it lets you learn how they're different, how they express their ideas, what's important to them, what they consider trivial. Without even traveling to another country, you can learn a lot about its culture. Great stuff.

There are no good reasons for learning a foreign language, unless English is a foreign language to you.

Well one of my best friends speaks Spanish better than English so that's one of the reasons that I'm trying to learn Spanish. The other one is there are many Spanish speaking people at my church and they sometimes need an interrupter.
