I would like to know why it would be better to start school at 9 am and end it at 4 pm, then it is to have school at 8 am and end it at 3pm. Reasons? Statistics? Scientifically why?

There have been studies done that show that children need 8 hours of sleep and that they were not getting this amount. School Districts across the country decided to start schools later (and thus stay open later) so that children had a better chance of getting this amount of sleep. The study said that this amount of sleep made for healthier children and that they learned and retained more.

Encouraging childrent to get more sleep?
I know in my area, our schools keep those hours because of bad weather. They want the snowplows to have a chance to clean the streets.

I would think that it takes an hour or two for the average person to get gong each morning. i.e., you are still groggy for the first few hours each morning. If you go to the gym, your workout doesn't really begin untill after a warm up.
