why are so few people interested in becoming a nun, a priest, or brother, etc.? How will we solve this?

There are still people choosing religious vocations today; however, more people used to pursue vocations in the past. Part of it is the Church's continued stances on celibacy and the refusal to ordain female priests. Few people want to give up sex for life, after all. I've considered becoming a brother, and someday still might, but I'm in college now and busy with that. Plus, I have a girlfriend, and would completely have to disassociate from her to be a monk. Since the Church doesn't seem ready to change its policies any time soon, one thing that could help is awareness about religious vocations. Many people simply don't know all of the options that are out there.

They can't have sex or relationships, at least not openly. I'll bet the "altar boy" scandals put a taint on it, too.

In the medieval era, people who weren't "marriageable" became priests, nuns, and monks. Now independent-minded women can have careers and live without men, gay men can be open, ugly people can have plastic surgery, etc.

I bet marriage for priests will help take care of part of it, at least, but then again, I've never been Catholic.

It starts with the parents. How they see it and encourage or discourage their children to be open to God's calling in this way makes a huge difference. OF course, the family life needs to be centered around Christ to begin with.

My 16 year old is very serious about approaching the priest hood.

Because through the years the Roman Catholic church has lost a lot of credibility. People are making their own religions and thier own doctrines. I dont see how celibacy can bring you closer to God. You can still have a family and dedicate your life to helping others and spreading God's message.

Humankind is always looking for the sky and dont see the real problems on earth, and how they could help others.

Why do you view this as a problem that needs solving? Do you read the news? My bible says I am a priest, a saint and the brother of Jesus (thank you Jesus!).Religion twisted the meanings. Might I suggest you start reading your bible and stop listening to man. God save them.

What's the point? What do nuns do that's productive and useful? Wouldn't the world be better served by them all becoming doctors instead?
