I took my 5 year old brother to the zoo yesterday and when he had to use the bathroom, I took him into the womens. I did not feel comfortable letting him go into the mens room by himself without supervision because of all the creeps that could be in there. I was just wondering ig this was the right thing for me to do? How old is too old for a boy to go in the womens restroom?

Also, my husband and I were talking and were wondering if we ever have a daughter and he takes her somewhere without me, is it ok for him to take her in the mens room? There are urinals in the mens room and we wouldn't want our daughter exposed to that so what would we do in that situation? If she were 5 I guess she could go in the womens alone but at 3 wouldn't she need somebody with her?

If there are any parents out there, let me know how you handle this situation. Do you get weird looks for taking a boy in the womens bathroom and vice versa?

Thanks

Age 5 is still OK to take into the ladies room. The only objection I have to little boys in the ladies room ( or even girls for that matter) is a mommy who doesn't control them and allow them to run around looking under stalls and playing with water, getting the floor wet. Boys over 7 should go to the men's room but Mom should make sure it is secure or perhaps try to find a family restroom that only has facilities for one. Dad should try to find family restrooms also because a little girl does not need to be exposed to men using the urinal. In general, little girls would probably be OK using the ladies room alone but there are times when a very little girl needs help with cumbersome clothing so it may be necessary for Dad to take her into the men's room. I always made sure mine used the restroom before we left home and tried to be aware of the best restrooms wherever we went.

it's fine to take a boy into the ladies room. Does anyone remember the terrible news story about the boy who went to the restroom in Vegas and never came back out? he was murdered and he was over 6!
Child safety Always comes before etiquette.
As far as the little girl situation goes... it would be fine to take a 3 year old in the men's room because a child that young still needs some help in the restroom. To avoid her accidently seeing some guy at the urinal, the parent can just open the door and give the other guys a warning. That will give the guys a chance to pull up their pants so the girl can pass by.
Same thing when she's on her way out of the stall.

And just ignore those wierd looks.
Safety comes first.
I bet that mom in Vegas will never forgive herself for putting etiquitte before her son's life.

I dont prefer to work out 7 and eight year old boys status around waiting on mommy while i pass into the ladies room.. i think of it quite is slightly too old. I constantly took my daughter into the stall with me, and while she have been given slightly older or I had to guard woman subject concerns, i could have her stand outdoors the stall together with her back to the door so i could see her ft in any respect circumstances. thankfully I even have observed extra relatives restrooms at present. i do no longer think of a guy could take a woman into the mens room until eventually absolutley neccasary.. however the belief of asserting formerly entering is a competent concept, then perhaps status gaurd over the front too. So happy I dont have that too difficulty approximately anymore. solid question nevertheless!

When the child is old enough to ask about why they are in the mens/women's room, then they are too old to be in the opposite sex's bathroom. As a concerned parent, you should just stand by the door and keep a very close ear out, and make sure that they are not in there expectedly long, as a monitor for trouble.

I know where I am takeing my 4yr old grandaughter. I know where the mens rooms have a level of clean and secure that is apropriate... and if its needed that is where we go... I only use ones with doors on the stalls... and I check out who is in there... y grandaughter is able to"hold it" for a time and will tell e in advance if she has to go...if the child has little controle it is best to just leave them to the female community untill they are able to do some of the nescisaries for themselves... form my own daughter, when she was little I taught her to scream bloody murder and when she could go without help I let her go to the ladies room... once she did scream and i went in fast... there was a spider on the seat... and woman very stuned in the next stall... but it got a laugh from all who heard and saw...no embarisment at all...my grandaughter is able to scream and will soon be going in on her own... with me right outside to rush to kill any spiders.
