I love my mandolin I got from Italy, though I still use the old knife and cutting board.
No mandolin.

I love my new age can opener that I bought at a Food Expo, but I still use my manual one from the dollar store.
No electric can opener.

I love the pump juicer I got from Mexico, but I still use a cheese grater to squeeze fresh lemon or orange juice into a dish (not a glass).

I say all that to say:

my heavy wooden cutting board
my manual can opener
my cheese grater
my cast iron skillet (I forgot to mention the T-Fal pans I rarely use)
my countertop grill

A good knife (most important), a good wooden chopping board, a fish-slice, a big pan and a frying pan.
A decent whisk, a colendar, a baking sheet, a big mixing bowl and a sturdy potato masher.
