Take an acorn squash and cut it in half. Remove the seeds. Take a cookie sheet and put just enough water in it to cover the bottom of the pan. Place the squash face down (skin up) into the pan with the water. Place in a preheated 350 degree oven for about an hour.
The water steams the squash and prevents it from drying out. Be careful when you remove the pan from the oven, that you don't burn yourself on the water (if it should spill).
It's good eaten with Parmesan cheese or maple syrup or brown sugar + butter. It's also VERY healthy for you!

I cut it in half, remove the seeds and strings, then put it in a 350 degree oven on a plain cookie sheet, upside down (outer peel up). It takes about 30 to 45 minutes, til it is really tender when pierced with a fork. Then turn it over, fill it with a tablespoon of butter and a tablespoon of brown sugar if you want, return to oven and cook a few more minutes til the butter is melted.

Quickly in the microwave.Pick holes in it and cook on high level. Keep checking by piercing it for softness. When totally done, cut open and scoop out seeds, etc from center. Clean edible squash from skin and mash with butter, etc. or whatever you wish. Squash is excellent when flavored by nutmeg for a slight hint of spice.....try a small shake it's delicious........

I used to just split them and bake the halves and butter them afterward, but I found a recipe that called for baking them face up with some cream and maple syrup inside. I didn't have either so I improvised. I put in a little milk, some butter, and a couple of tablespoons of maple flavored pancake syrup. They turned out great.

First cut it in half and sprinkle cinnamon nutmeg and sugar on it! Then put butter on it and put it in the oven on 350 for 30 min or until soft.
