Most fabric decomposes with the body. But then again consider your source. Hollywood is rarely factual. Most dead bodies are clothed or wrapped in cloth.

What's on inside the coffin is determined by the family or the one in charge of the wedding. Funeral directors usually ask if the family wants any jewelry, esp. rings, removed before burial. The family is asked to provide the appropriate clothing. On occasion, there is a "different" request. I remember 1 story of a woman insistent on being buried in her negligee.
Thus to the movies. Clothing is far less durable than skin and especially bones. The clothing simply rots from the moisture and temperature changes. In real life and good movies, you will notice the tougher cloth "leather" and belts, shoes, etc. are still there w/ the bones.

actually to tell the truth, and be prepared, when you are buried in the casket you have clothes on, but they cut the clothes down the middle so that they can get the clothes on...its way too hard to put a persons arms and legs in the clothes...and i dont think they put shoes on the people being buried...as far as the clothes go they eventually rot away....hope this helps

Haven't you ever been to a funeral? They have their clothes on. The clothes decompose over time just as the flesh does. You could as easily ask if they bury people with their flesh on. Where does it go? They're just bones after all....

With clothes on of course. People usually get buried with their flesh on too, don't they. Yet you're not surprised to see the flesh is gone and there's just bones.

If you check out the funeral home you will find they have an enormous amount of clothes hanging in their closets. If you don't supply clothes, they will sell you a nice suit for example. Of course the suit has been cut to allow for the ease of dressing a corpse. Just before they close the lid they grab a hold of the collar and yank the suit off and hang it back up. Sometimes they dry clean it first. Sometimes, but how could it get too dirty?
