I need help locating free depression counseling and medication in Southern California for a woman that is not working (but wants to) and can't afford to pay for such services. She's been unable to locate any service provider that can diagnose and treat her long-term depression. She has been brushed off many times and really needs to find full treatment (counseling & medication) so she can get back on track and find a steady job. Any help/leads to service providers are GREATLY appreciated!!!

another way is to become a part of a pre-marketing study of a med that is pretty much ready to go and just needs final FDA approval. she'd get to be in the hospital for that (in some instances), and at least the drug treatment would be free.

check out the NAMI page for your area, or call them and ask what services they know of.

Your best option is to have your friend apply for medicade through your local department of social services office.

Medicaid is the US health insurance program for individuals and families with low incomes and resources. In your state, they refer to it as Medi-Cal

For more information; you can try the following website
http://www.dmhc.ca.gov/dmhc_consumer/hp/hp_medical.asp

To get in touch with your local social services office, visite this web site
http://www.dhs.ca.gov/mcs/medi-calhome/CountyListing1.htm

You can also apply for Medi-cal through your county's mental health agency. A directory off offices can be found on this website.

Once you visit a local office a case worker will guide you through the process and help you get help for your friend.

I hope this helps!

Good luck.
