I can't even think - even a passing thought - about situations in my life that are "of concern" to me. As a result, my brain is always on autopilot, like a remote control out of control, changing channels so quickly in my head so I can't think about the dreaded topics. This of course, leads me to forget things in the middle of conversations - like, "what was I just saying?" Which leads to social anxiety - will I open my mouth and make a fool of myself again? Turning off my brain is not possible at night as most people do to sleep. My remote control keeps switching "channels" - songs, music, scenes from my life, movies, etc. over and over and over. So, needless to say, I am always tired 'cause I can't sleep well, which of course leads to more anxiety - will I be able to pay attention in class? WIll I totally space out on a test?
And that is just the tip of hte iceberg.

My anxiety disorder is terrifying, depressing and embarrassing.
I've had it now for 26 years and have worked hard to be a successful and loving person. Every day is a struggle to get out of bed and takes a huge amount of courage to survive the day. I have also realized how this disorder has made me a better person. My husband helps me and I take prosac. I use bio feedback and deep prayer to help me through tough times.
My triggers are stress, eating too much, not enough sleep,
cough syrup, wine, coffee, performing (I'm a singer) public
speaking, having to go out of my house, having to get ready to go somewhere, stores, places filled with people, driving,
and worrying.

Can relate to this question. I have panic/anxiety disorder. I sometimes think if you don't have in the 21st., century then something is wrong with you. I practice relaxation measures and have for years. I read an excellent answer a few days back on panic attacks. I will see if I can find the source, when done here. For me, I tried to manage the anxiety for years without medication, trying to deal with the constant or near constant anxiety for me was proving to be over whelming. Therefore I went to my family doctor and said, okay, I'm ready for some help here, I have tried and tried to manage this on my own. My life is becoming unmanageable and I accomplish little for all my Enery goes to trying to funciton with anxiety. He put me on a Benzedrine, and an antidepressant. Did this cure me NO, but it does allow me to go out in enjoy things, to interact with society, and attend social events. I believe it's great if one can manage anxiety without medications. But hey, if you can't, life is short at its longest, so for me I finally agreed with my doctor and started taking the medication only as directed, not once taking more than he ordered, that was 5 years ago.

A therapist can usually gauge if yours is serious. Mine were pretty mild. They were triggered by being upset and overly worried about something small--I sometimes obsess about little things and can't sleep. I would cry and can't breathe all of a sudden. My heart would palpitate and I had a feeling of being unsettled all day.
My doctor prescribed celexa and something else I can't remember but both made me feel really lethargic. The latter one even gave me an allergic reaction (nausea, stomach ache) so I stopped taking them after a few doses. Meditation, therapy and mind conditioning helped me more and now I don't have them as much anymore.
Hope this helps.

I take Griffonex, a supplement because other wise I have a problem driving a car.
When my anxiety is out of control I feel like my car has only 2 wheels like a bike.....and I have to kinda balance the car. It's really weird and potentially dangerous.
I'm fine as long as I take the supplement every day.
