you are pulling on your head. Try keeping your hands to your side and focus on the ceiling, or you can use your hands but have them touching the sides of your head opposed to pulling your head up. Let your tummy do the work and not your hands or your head.

Your neck is hurting because your hands are behind your head, forcing your neck into an awkward position. You need to support your neck by moving your hands down from your head and allowing your hands to support the weight only-don't push with your hands. Make sure all of your efforts are concentrated on your stomach muscles.
good luck

Do you put your hands behind your neck? I think you're using your neck and not your abs to pull yourself up...or something...because my neck doesn't hurt when I do crunches, but my abs end up feeling it.

buy an ab machine so you dont hurt your neck. or at home have two chairs face each other. seats out. then but your hands on the tops of each chair and lift your legs untill they are parrall with the ground. then repeat that 10 times. do three sets of that.

Get your hands off the back of your neck and keep them crossed like an X over your chest with your hands on your shoulders. Takes the strain off of your neck and it is actually a much more productive posture. It will seem a bit harder, that's because it is. Harder = better. :-)

Lace your fingers behind you neck for support. Help to lift your neck while you are doing crunches. Your stomach should be doing all the work, anyways.

Do what I do, just keep your neck relaxed.
Let your head hang if you need to.
Make sure only your abs are doing any work.
