why? idiocy and superstitious nonsense (and brainwashing) direct their lives. that's why.

It's *religion* -- it's not supposed to make sense!
Let me tell you a (true) story similar to your question...
Got an e-mail from an acquaintance, who is hard-core born-again christian. There had been an accident on a school bus her kids were on, coming home from school. The bus went off the road and rolled. In her e-mail, she said:
"When we got the news, I was with four other parents. We immediately prayed for the safety of our children. We went to the scene as fast as we could. God answered my prayers, and my two kids were ok, just a few bruises. Unfortunately, Mary's (one of the women with her when she got the news) son was on the side of the bus that it rolled onto, and he didn't make it. He's with god now."
So god answered her prayer, but not the other woman with her? Does that mean she prays better? That she's a better person than the other woman? That her kids are better? Why did god save her kids but not the others? When I pressed her on this, she said, "It's god's will, we have no control over it." If that's so, then why did they pray -- if god was going to do "his will" no matter what, what's the point of praying for a particular outcome? I mean, you can't have it both ways...either praying can produce a desired result, or it can't. Either god's doing to do his will no matter what (no matter how much you pray), or he's not. It can't be both.
Just thought I'd illustrate how none of this makes any sense. How any rational person can constantly live their life in such confusion and contradiction is beyond me...

it's not really just "god", actually, it has a lot to do with the idea of mind-over-matter. If you BELIEVE you will get well, if you BELIEVE you won't die, then you'll be okay. But if you have doubts about whether the procedure will work, whether you'll be ok afterwards, then you'll have problems in the recovery process. To be honest, this only works to a certain point. But if you're healing after a decently risky procedure like open heart surgery, if you BELIEVE and PROFESS that you will get better and will heal, then you'll be out of the hospital faster. Also it helps if you just keep a positive outlook on things. I mean, there are plenty of anecdotes about people with cancer watching or listening to comedians all the time, and they do better than those who don't. I mean, sure, they're not real scientific studies, but it's enough to give me hope that I have power over my body.

understand that God works miracles...He can cure someone who is on the verge of death even if doctors have given up all hope...afterall, that is why we as christians serve him because he hears our prayers...you think of king Hezekiah who was pronounced by the prophet to die . He pleaded with God and so God extended his life another 15 years ! God works miracles...I'll share an experience I have with my 15 year old son... From childhood, he occasionally got sick to the extend of dying. Well I prayed but there were times I had to take him to the doctor... because doctors are given wisdom/knowledge by God. This is faith.Faith in that I have to work... seek the best the doctors could give and when they give up, God takes over ... You see, my son ended up in the x-ray table many times and was even pronounced of having hepetitus B ... but most recent medical check ups found that he does not have that !!1 You know, one thing I do a lot and that is PRAY>>PRAY>>PRAY>>> and God hears ... Psalms 37 : when the righteous cry, the Lord hears and delivers them out from ALL their troubles ! Isn't that amazing about the God we serve ? So I'm saying here that where the doctor is needed, give him the opportunity... May God Bless.

people give GOD thanks because he used the doctors to heal people. GOD gives the gift of life. Without GOD there would be no doctors and technology. I don't see how GOD is halting the advancment of science.

I have heard more doctors report miracles than any other Christian converts. Miracles do not disrupt or delay scientific discovery. Do a cross-reference of doctors convert to Christianity and see what you find. If they admit to miracles, why shouldn't we?
On the other hand, if you are talking about experiments such as stem cell research; I have no objection and don't understand why the 'Church" has come out against it. God prevails and we should not fear what He already knows. In that instance alone, religion may be delaying research; but only temporarily.

The mind is a very powerful weapon we all have. When one is depressed or sad, if you check their white blood cell count, they are decreased. What does it mean? It means that the body acts as a whole. Body and mind must be healthy for one to have great health.
A powerful believer will have an impact on his health.
Its actually helping science in a new way.

without God it is not even possible for you or any other person on the face of the earth to draw their next breath! God also gives talents to man, and man is arrogant enough to believe that they are the one who did this miracle in their own power. God is the great physician, so to him be all the Glory

God gives surgeons, doctors, etc. their abilities, whether these people admit it or not and whether they are believers or not. God created science, technology and every medical procedure known to man. Those people thanking God understand. Understand?

Because miracles happen through prayers through God, usually sometimes Doctors say to the patient, It was a miracle, I didn't think you were going to make it, and them people in the state that they were in would pray and or others would pray for that person.

God has given the doctors, nurses, researchers, etc. the gifts and talents that they use to accomplish these things. God gives us the abilities that we have.
When someone helps me in whatever way, I thank that person and I thank God for that person.
