Not only is she a foster parent she's a foster to adopt parent.Do you think she should just go ahead and adopt or keep doing what she is doing?

Remind her that she's going to get another little boy! Or perhaps a little girl!

And remind her that she chose to be a foster parent in order to help kids like him who need help for a short time. It is a difficult thing, but this is the life of a foster parent. These kids all belong to someone else, and foster parents are just there to take care of them for a little while.

She was there when he needed her, and that's what matters most.

I have a close friend who just became a foster parent. She had the little girl for four weeks, and they gave her back to her parents. But, one month later, she came back to live with her and she is adopting her in December. It is very hard to be a foster mother. It takes a truly unique person to do this. Personally, I would get too attached to the children and get frustrated with the state. I would tell her to request a child with long term placement. Congrats to her for becoming a foster Mom.

One thing you can try is to let her know that this is just the start of being a foster parent. Make sure she does not express her feeling in front of this child because by doing so can cause problems for him with seperation. She would want to appear excited for the child and she should be happy that he has someone besides herself that cares for him. Maybe you can spend the weekend with her planning for situations that may come up such as this.

What an awesome responsiblity to be a foster parent. Just encourage her and help her in any way you can. Remind her that as a foster mom she has an important job. We need more good foster parents.
