Well scriptures says; no one comes to the father, except by me (Jesus). In fact the Bible points to the fact that Mary, Jesus's mother; accepted Him as Lord and Savior of her life. She's dead awaiting the rapture, like so many others who have died before, yet accepting Christ as Lord and Savior.

How can a dead person hear our prays and past them on? Why would God being omnipresent, and all powerful; need her help?

Let me start by saying Catholics don't worship Mary. That seems to be a very common misunderstanding. We look to Mary as our model and our own mother.

Jesus did not command anyone pray to Mary. Nor did he command anyone pray to him.

However, if we accept Christ as our King then according to the traditions given by God in the Old Testament, we accept Christ's mother as his queen. See, in OT times, kings had many wives. So the wife was not queen. The king's mother was queen.

That is why Catholics, who came from the apostles, follow a lot of Jewish traditions. Go back to the OT and read Kings 1 & 2.

Think of it in these very simple terms. We are God's children. Like all kids, messy and chaotic. Here playing in the dirt that is our lives. We ask our mother, Jesus's mother, to come help us pray. To intercede for us. She comes when we ask, and tidies us up to present us, and our needs, to our King and Lord.

If we offer God an apple through her hands, she takes it and puts it on a silver platter and presents it for us.

Hope that helps.

No, this was never a commandment from our Lord. Instead, it grew as a custom from an earthly understanding of royal houses and how royal courts worked. The King's mother (or sister, or wife) could be approached as an intermediary for special cases. Getting her to plead "with" you would get you faster results from the King.

Eventually, this concept was applied to Mary, Jesus' mom. Most Catholics don't pray to her as a "goddess". Instead, they ask her to intercede to God on their behalf, as a human with more grace and authority. RC's don't believe that the saints (in heaven) are just laying about on the grass, they believe that they are watching the earth and praying for those that are still here. Not directly involved, but still concerned.

If I misunderstood this, then I invite my Catholic brethren to correct me.

I swear, about once a day, some form of the question "Why do Catholics pray to Mary?" gets asked at Yahoo! Answers. I'm not Catholic, but Catholics ask Mary to pray for them.

Way back when the Roman Catholics were trying to "persuade" the Celtic people to convert to Catholicism is when that was started. The Celtic people went to the Catholic churches, did what they were supposed to do while there and then went on to celebrate the old festivals and holidays and they continued to pray to their Goddess. The Roman Catholic Priests, after many failed attempts at trying to make them stop, convinced them that it was Mary that they should "pray" to. To the Celts it was just another name for Goddess.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say to pray to Mary. Mary is only mentioned in the Bible a few does. Jesus never said to pray to Mary, its not in the Bible.

Jesus did say this though, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Light, nobody comes to the Father but by ME." that sums everything up. Pray in Jesus' name and He will take it to the Father for you.

Jesus never said that you should pray to Mary, nor does the Word state that Mary was forever a virgin. Indeed, James is Jesus' brother...kinda hard for a virgin to have children back then without having sexual relations.

No people don't pray to Mary, not even Catholics, but everyone knows that, except for those reading Chick publications.

Mary is asked to intercede to Christ ( pray for us)
Just like you asking other church members to pray for you.

And yes Catholics only ask Jesus to intercede to us to God.
No different than any other Christian

did Jesus ever say not to pray to Mary?? i think you underestimate Mary's importance. i mean, had she said no when God asked her to bear his son, where would YOU be now???? catholics believe that Mary is in heaven praying for us. if people on earth can pray for us, why can't people in heaven pray for us? what is the difference? did the Bible ever say that people on earth can't pray for us????? just think logically. have a little faith.

Jesus said you must become like little children because the Kingdom of God belongs to such as them. What little child does not need his/her Mother? He knew exactly what he was saying. It also says the prayers of a righteous man availeth much. If someone gets on here and says "Please pray for me because..." We all jump on here and say oh certainly no problem thinking our prayers will make a difference--since when are we better than the Lord's own Mother?
