It's a fact and highly advised against. Even though when you fill out the financial aid papers it goes by your tax info. If you accept an offer to a school before hearing back from another one, the school you just said yes to may not offer that great of a financial aid package. But if another school comes after that and offers you more financial aid, you can NOT change your mind. You've not only committed yourself to that first school for all 4 yrs but no matter what financial aid they offered you that's all you can have for that first year. We always tell people to apply as general addmission. That will give you the time to hear from every school before committing yourself to a small financial package.

Usually your financial aid is based on need (the FASFA) or merit (academics, athletics, volunteer work), so I'm sure that is a myth. The schools would rather you apply early, and many scholarships are first-come-first-serve. Just watch out for the fine print. If you apply "early decision" at many schools you are making a commitment to that school.

for incoming freshmen, financial aid will be notified in the spring. those who applied early, are those who have high gpa's and what scholarships based on those merits will be notified earlier in the spring. If you don't have a significant high gpa and you are not involved any honors club, community service position (offers financial aid) then applied during regular admission.

I think that sounds like a myth. You ever hear the saying that the early bird catches the worm? I think it applies here.

it probably depends on the school, but i would think it would make you more eligible. in fact a couple schools i'm applying to (reg. decision) actually offer some small scholarship for applying early decision.
if you don't know, contact the school you're applying early decision to and ask 'em! i'm usre they will be glad to answer your questions.
