I know they were to become living things but I don't get why some have blood in them.

They were fertilized. My grandparents used to use a candle to check for that and reject the fertilized eggs for selling. Most places sell unfertilized eggs.

when you see the blood that means that the chick inside was starting to develop, and that the eggs were not collected fast enough. Don't eat them. If you want to stay away from that see if you can find eggs that were never fertilized by te rooster, like try to get some from a rooster free farm. That way, there will be no chick inside.

These eggs do not sound like they have been inspected. As one of the others said, it has been fertilized. Eggs that are inspected by the government do not have this problem. If is is a small country store, they may be selling farm fresh eggs, but it really should be posted with the eggs and some type of inspection is still warranted.

If you think it needs to be reported, email me and I will find out who you need to report to. My brother is an inspector off eggs and poultry for the government.

The egg might be from an older hen. It won't hurt you to eat it. But I don't blame you for not wanting to.
